Window Tinting

I spent over 5 years as a contortionist, keeping my left arm out of the sun when heading S in the A.M. & N in the P.M., along w/ slipping a manila envelope under my pant leg (whilst wearing shorts, of course) to keep upper leg from getting sun overexposure.

Then it hit me; window tinting!!! So I decided I'd splurge with my new truck, and get the two side windows done & an 8.5" strip across top of windshield.

Problem is, the green safety book specifies no less than 70% of light can go through commercial vehicle window tinting.

Question: Is a 30% reduction enough to be effective? Anyone try 70% on their truck?

Thanks for your help!

Each state also has their own requirements that you have to follow. I see some pretty dark tint on some trucks, matter of time before they get caught. I know Maryland will check cars and trucks, a friend of my wife's has removed her tint twice after being pulled over. She then goes back and gets it put on just as dark.

I had the "Window Tint Lady" at the Wildwood Truck Stops do mine. She put 50% on the sides and a chrome strip across the windshield (IH onepiece) for $100. If you didnt know, the IH 9000 series have the largest windshields and largest side windows, almost about the size of a fricking house window LOL.
I drove the truck in all 48 and never once got stopped or asked about it in 3yrs I had it. You honestly could not even tell the window was tinted from looking in, but sitting in the truck, it made a world of difference, especially on the heat aspect, I never got "hot arm" again. Only problem I had was the windows fog easily and also if your wearing polarized lenses in your sunglasses, it makes a rainbow effect when looking thru it.

I just put 35% on my side windows yesterday as a matter of fact in the FLD because that S. Texas sun is killing me and I look half hispanic (left arm) and half ghost (right arm) LOL. You can tell they are tinted but in Indiana, state law is 32% or higher, but that doesn't mean crap in IL, MO, AR, LA, and TX (my route)

Thanks, SHC! I go by Wildwood sometimes several times a week & often fuel at the Pilot there. R U talking about the chrome shop? Or a separate booth nearby?

I can't imagine a bigger side window than the Volvo trucks have. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for IH windows.

you can get around the tint law by using a CLEAR UV block film. blocks out 99% of the uv and still 90% clear

No, just kick the CB onto 19 and as for THE TINT LADY..... she is usually across the street from the Chrome Shop. She drives an old 70's GMC truck and lives in town. When I had mine done, she wasn't there, but I asked if anyone knew her and some locals gave her a call and she showed up in 20min. Quick, clean and curteous!

There is no "get around" in the film you described. It would be perfectly legal. Ideally, I'd get 70% + UV block.

I got a tint ticket at Kansas I-35 NB coop once. 35%. He says next time roll down the window. Now I always roll 'em down.
