Phenominal MPG With My New Truck!

My old Volvo (an '01 660 w/ 465 HP Volvo engine) got 10.3 MPG bobtailing, both 5+ years ago @ 538,000 miles, and recently at 1,066,000 miles.

My new Volvo (a bigger '06 780 w/ 465 HP Volvo engine) gets 11.5 bobtailing! :lol2:

Now if this 11.6% increase corresponds to loaded miles, I'll be in hog's heaven. :smokin:

Ya know...

Years ago, when we wanted to have fun with somebody, we'd put a gallon of fuel in for him, on a daily basis. He'd be getting fantastic fuel economy... Then, after about 6 months or so, we'd stop putting the fuel in.

A guy can go completely bald trying to figure out where the fuel economy went...

Thats soooo mean

I have a guy I run with each week and he just bought a new fancy streched out 389EXHD for $155k. We were at the shop and he ran in to go use the bathroom so I turned his truck off, then kicked the key back to the ON position. You should have seen him when he came out. I did it again at the Petro when we stopped for fuel, and again at the rest area..... he was sooooooo pissed and cursed the damn Peterbilt dealer and blah blah blah. Finally at dinner I confessed to doing it and he laughed his ass off. Now I'm just waiting to see what he has in store for me

I'm guessing your pulling a freight box, and lets say you average 35,000lbs loaded in the box, at 65mph I bet you get about 7.0 - 7.2mpg

I'm dragging a dry-bulk tank and go down at 3800lbs in the tank, and empty back 2,200miles round trip with a flat-top FLD and 3.90 rears. I set my cruise at 63mph and I'm getting an average between 8.2 - 8.5mpg :)

Actually, I would get around 7.2 MPG pulling a dry van that is fully loaded (45,000 LBS) in my old truck. But I expect to do better than that with new one.

you'll get 6.6-6.8 with that truck. check the dash readout for avg mpg and that will tell you what it's avg has been and no it's not my old one. mine was 60351 and avg mpg for the 231,000 i had it was 6.7...

No dispute with high mpg numbers, but first question that comes up in my mind when I read about mpg figures is whether these figures are off of the ECM displays or actual pump to pump hand calculated. My truck consistently shows 8 - 8.5 mpg on the display (even idle time figured on that), yet the hand calculations, fill up to fill up, show averages of around 7.5 mpg. The display sure can be fun to see, but it has to be tempered with real world figures. I have seen only a slim few displays that show mpg that is close to real figures.

X2, I watched my readout a lot tonight and it went as low as 4.2 and as high as ( hope your sitting down) 98.9 MPG! course that was rolling down hill but if true even considering most of my run's on flat ground I should still be about 25 or 30average. To bad it dosn't work that way! My QC say's 7.7 but pen and paper comes out to 7.2 still pretty good.
