Just approved at Mercer...now what?
Greetings to everyone. Some quick back ground: Ran my own authority for a while, leased on to a carrier for a while.....now I'm going to give Mercer a try. I live in Denver CO.
I've read everything I can get my computer to generate about Mercer. Everyone I've worked with in the office in Louisville has been top notch and completely professional. Now I'm interested in anything that might happen once I get my truck to Louisville that's not usually expected. "The things they didn't mention" type of things.....good or bad. "They usually don't tell you everynight is steak and lobster, dinner and dancing" -- -- or "You have to come up with $10,000 worth of this and that" I know I need to buy flatbed equipment and a trailer.... Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to my experiences with Mercer. Robert |

My buddy was with them, you will be trained on loading and tarping, the have the equipment to sell to you at their facility.
My buddy stayed for 1 year, it was a few years back, says he never could get the loads he wanted, I have a feeling he was way to picky, plus he is not the brightest bulb in the shed, he is at Dana now and still makes rookie mistakes when it comes to picking loads. You should do fine there, there are lots of guys with over 10 years there, lots with 20 or better also. Can't be that bad to work for, most say the like it a lot, plus all those guys there that length of time can't all be dim-bulbs.....................................can they??? Also some real nice equipment has their name on it, but I've also seen lots of junkers also. |
I have a friend who leased to them for a while. He loved them. The only problem is that freight slowed and he was only grossing about $1,300 a week for a few weeks. He went back to running his own authority and hasn't looked back since. Everyone was slow at the time. Mercer has gone through some changes the last couple of years. Most people with whom I have spoken that leases to them really likes them. Like with any carrier, you should be flexible. You can't always have things your own way. I might consider them should I decide to stop running my authority and lease to someone else.

Your attitude and willingness to do your best will do more to insure your success than anything else, no matter which carrier you decide to lease. You will also need to be flexible when it comes to loads and where you run. Freight continues to be somewhat in flux and unless you are willing to adapt to those changes you may find that you will not do as well as you like.

When I was running flats, Mercer was always up-front with everything I did for them. Paid right away too, no bull**** like Landstar and it's crooked ***** brokers.
I left the flats a few years back and hoped on tankers....... best thing I ever did!!! |
