Insurance Companies

I am going to be getting my Authority and want to shop around for Insurance that will be needed. I have been hauling logs for the past 3 years and will contiune to do so, but can haul flatbed when my log hauling gets slow, for a company I worked with before becoming an O/O.

I may be wrong, but I believe I will need to get my MC and Authority for this correct?

I will be hauling mainly in AL, GA and Tn, using their Trailers. I will have insurance on my Truck 2003 W900L KW, my Log Trailer, and I believe doing the Trailer Interchange Insurance.

Waiting on quote from OOIDA, anyone use them and or advice about them?

Anyone use Progressive?

Looking for advice, suggestions and Insurance Companies to check out.

Thanks for the Help everyone.

Not all brokers will accept OOIDA's insurance. When you haul freight across state lines you need motor carrier authority. If you will be leasing your truck to another carrier you don't need motor carrier authority. You will be running under their authority.

I would check around on rates. Find a good insurance broker and have them check rates for you. Northland is supposed to have the best rates at this time. That can change from year to year. I know some who have Great West and gotten a better rate from them. Progressive only sells liability insurance. There are limitations that they place on where you run. If you are only going to run in those states you mentioned, Progressive could work for you but you will still need to find a company to underwrite your cargo insurance.

If you do decide to get your authority let me know and I will get a couple of names for you. I know a woman in Alabama who gave me a pretty good rate. I believe she lives around Gadsden or Jackson. I went with my current company because they gave me a little better rate but she was next on my list. I should still have her number around somewhere. I would first find out if you actually need authority.
