Well Mike you may know more than me but I contacted Arkansas' DMV and they told me I had to schedule the test with the Arkansas State Police.(They only give the test on certain days and certain hours of the day.) Then pass the test. Then call the DMV (once I passed) schedule a fingerprinting at Little Rock which is 200 miles from me. They only do it in the morning and on certain days as well. So I would have to drive there get a motel then be in the office in the morning for my fingerprinting appointment. I have to pay a fee of $500. Not $100. (I guess it's cheaper where you live.) Then come back to the DMV and get my license updated with the new hazmat endorsement.(Once I get approved from the Fed's) Then pay another fee to get the new license. The hazmat endorsement is only good for 6 months.

Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through just for something that I will never use. Just to get a job for a company that I might or might not even like.

Then again I could be completely wrong about it. I'm sure all the EXPERTS here will cut me down to my knees and tell me how much BS i spew. Then again you can call the Arkansas DMV like I did and see for yourself what the process is. There's only one Federal Building here in Arkansas that does the Hazmat fingerprinting also. It's a office from The Dept. of Homeland Security in the Federal building in Little Rock.

Now thank you but I will pass on LS (requiring) me to get a hazmat. Or any other company that does. Even if I had it I would maybe use it once before I had to renew it. It seems senseless to me.

I had one before all the 9/11 crap kicked in and I hauled maybe 3 hazmat loads in the whole 4 years I had it. If you want a hazmat then fine go for it. But why keep insisting and insisting that I get one? Are you a requiter for LS?

I thank you for the advice. I really do, but I don't want a hazmat or a job that requires me to have one. I may not make a million dollars driving a truck. I don't think having a hazmat or working for a company that requires me to have one will increase my odds of becoming a millionare either.

It is a headache and a liability. Sorry if you can't understand.

whether you want a hazmat or not, you were told wrong by someone who obviously doesnt know what they are talking about
the hazmat test is written test only and is given at the local dmv during regular hours you can NOT take the test until your background check is completed and your results are forwarded to the dmv, the fee for background check is $95. this is set by the feds, not by states
I agree though, if you arent interested in hauling hazmat, it's not worth the hassle
p.s Arkansas has 7 locations where you can do it

I honestly don't know what that website is Fredog. I looked at it and one of the locations is Medtest in Jonesboro, AR. That's where I live and I can promise that place has nothing to do with fingerprinting for Hazmats, testing or Homeland Security. Medtest is a place that tests urine samples only. I've went there and filled a cup up once or twice. All that works there is a couple of ladies in white coats. There's two rooms, one office and a bathroom. The whole place is no bigger than a walk in closet.

I just called the DMV about 2 months ago and that was the process and the fees I was told. She told me that I had to go in person to Little Rock and do a fingerprint with a Federal witness. Maybe she was full of it. State Police handles all of the CDL license testing in Arkansas maybe hazmat is Federal testing only???? I took my original Hazmat test in Memphis at the DMV when I went to school there. I was told that there was a place in Forrest City that used to do fingerprinting but for lack of use it was closed.

No matter I'm not doing it either way.

It is only 89.25, done by the TSA, and you can get fingerprinted in any participant state,

https://hazprints.tsa.dhs.gov is where you start, not the dmv, and it is good until you renew your license. Guess you won't get a TWIC card either.

Dave_0755 04-15-2010 01:10 AM

I'm going to call back to the DMV tomorrow. I believe you guys. That girl at the DMV must be more of a moron that I am. She told me a huge story and said it was for 6 months only. I remember because I asked why the hazmat was for 6 months and the CDL was for 4 she said it's the way it is. Hazmats are only valid for 6 and you must update them.

It's hard doing stuff because you ask the same question to 5 different people and get 5 different answers.

Dave_0755 04-15-2010 01:20 AM

TWIC was established by Congress through the Maritime Transportation Security Act (MTSA) and is administered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Coast Guard. TWICs are tamper-resistant biometric credentials that will be issued to workers who require unescorted access to secure areas of ports, vessels, outer continental shelf facilities and all credentialed merchant mariners. It is anticipated that more than 1 million workers including longshoremen, truckers, port employees and others will be required to obtain a TWIC.

LOL. Why would I need a TWIC card Heavy? I've never been to a port. I just want to run the midwest, southeast and maybe some west. I don't plan on hauling containers, or going to the outer continental shelf. Is that what you do?????

Roadhog 04-15-2010 02:09 AM

In Michigan, you pay $89.25 through the TSA.
You fill out your application, then go to a fingerprint site, and they give you a receipt after you've been printed. This has to be done prior to 30 days before your CDL expires.

Your license and hazmat endorsement will be renewed if you present the TSA approval letter, pass the written test, and pay the fees.

If you haven't received your TSA approval letter in time;
You will be provided with a temporary operator's permit to drive and haul hazmat if your license is still valid, and you have applied to renew and done the fingerprints. Once TSA approves your application, your full license with hazmat endorsement will be issued.

Your hazmat endorsement cannot be renewed if your license has expired, if you do not apply for the background record check or if TSA denies your application.
In other words you have to get the TSA approval letter before taking the written, at that point.

Lot of Ports in the SE, and midwest, Savannah, Charleston and some on that little river by Memphis and the Arkansas. Lots of van loads of raw matériels, rubber, paper etc are loaded in vans, not containers at port warehouses, for someone with years of trucking experince you didn't get out much.

Roadhog 04-15-2010 03:07 AM

I've hauled allot of reefer loads from seaports. Mostly loads out of South Jersey Port of Camden.

I've hauled out of Memphis for 10 years and have never picked up anything from a barge. Never picked up a contaner, never picked up from a Port Authority either. Never had a TWIC card and never had a use for one. I can do without a TWIC card.

Why?..........nevermind..........your not going to change. Sorry you have to live such a hateful life. It must be miserable.

Your right.....I'm wrong.....your right.....i'm wrong.....your right.....i'm wrong......YOU WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now question is whats your prize??????????

Smile and be happy. A change from normal will do you good.

Does everything have to be a competition here where the person with the last word in is the winner?? Maybe I should post the website about the truth in truck drivers forums again.
