CSA 2010 Questions
Anyone on here have a good understanding of CSA 2010? I am reading through everything on the site trying to make sense of it, is anyone willing to help me out?
|
I'm waiting for the rolling cluster of 50 different interpretations crap to start flying.
|
I think I have a basic understanding of it, from reading about it and listening to Monty Dial as well as those two guys from the FMCSA that were on landline now.
|
What they said LOL.
Much of it is already in place (safestat) but nobody seems to realize that. Two biggest differences between the current safestat system are: 1. The driver has a safety rating under CSA 2010... just the carrier. 2. The violations are assigned points based on how severe they are. |

It's a more streamlined approach from the FMCSA. Nothing to worry about............ unless your doing wrong. I blow past the scales and roadside set ups so I have nothing to worry about. That's all part of being an outlaw trucker. |

I got a red light on my prepass and when I got to the ramp it said scales closed so I went on by. I asked on the radio what everyone does when that happens. The answers I got were: Always follow in cab signals and if you got the red pull in open or closed. Go on by scales the scales are closed. They close the scales and give everyone with prepass the red light so they can check only prepass trucks. Which is correct?? |
If the sign says open and I get a red, I go in
If the sign says closed, closed is closed, I'm not going in |

Knowing my luck, I'd get a red light on a closed scale house, drive on by, and then get pulled over by DOT.

YouTube - Progressive Truck Driving & Safety Tips #2 I had to laugh, but if they asked me if I had any tips, I imagine I'd say something that would be very helpful. :hellno:  "Don't stand behind donkeys." :p |

When I have had prepass and got a red light I always went in unless the scale is closed. If it is closed I don't go in. I have yet to have anyone chase me down for following the scale signs.

If I got a red and the scales were closed, I'd go and bypass it. Sometimes they put the barriers up to keep trucks from parking overnight in some scales, and that would suck to unexpectedly have 2 or 3 in fron of my rig. If I saw a truck or two pulling in, I would be inclined to go into the scales.
Recently, as I headed west into AZ on 40 I got the red, but the illuminated signs said to bypass. Knowing that scale is open, I went in and they just did a routine (almost) rolling check for cab cards, insurance, etc. I asked if I did the right thing and the lady said yes. So, red light, bypass ok, scale open, go in. Red light, scale visibly and obviously close, bypass. Anytime a ramp is backed up on the highway or considerably on the shoulder, I bypass. I won't have a minivan full of a family with a drowsy driver slam bam me cuz the scale line moves slow. I'll take the ticket before I'd put myself in that situation. |
I got those red lights too when the scales was closed and I mash the accerlator and keep going, never had any trouble ....yet...
