Cost to paint a truck
 

Did anyone ever get their truck painted before. If you did how much did you pay. I'm not talking about a crazy ass trick my truck paint job. Just a normal change the color of the truck paint job. Thanks.

First time I had the truck painted, it was around $1800. Second time (which was done much better) was around $3500.

a daycab will be a little cheaper. I would think:confused:. So around 2,000 give or take for a good paint job.

changing the color always costs more if they do it right, I would figure 35 to 4500

When I had my own trucks I used to paint them myself.

Usually about $500.00 worth of materials and a couple weeks of my own labor.

yep, you can get a lot of spray paint at Walmart for 500 bucks

Actually I did it the right way with proper preparation, a coat of primer, lightly sand the primer, blow off all the sanding dust, tack rag the entire surface, then shoot 1 tack coat and 1 full wet coat of #40496 Mack green PPG acrylic enamel & hardener, applied with a Binks model 7 spray gun in the shop I had at the time.

I painted my car with acrylic enamel. I used a 15year old gun from NAPA lol. It didn't turn out to bad for the 1st time doing it i had one bad run i have to use thiner to whipe off and re-spray. But it was a beater car so it was no big deal. I would never try to paint something real nice and put on clear coat too. Thats above my skill level. Unless maybe the REV would let me practice on his truck :D

My dad talk to a O/O today that has an older Pete 379 daycab. Got it painted real nice cost him 4,100. I didnt think it would be that much. But i guess it is one of those things you get what you pay for.

I didn't think it would be that cheap! Really, I thought a paint job (done right) was around $8000.00. Guess I was asking the wrong people. hmmmm....... Now I'm thinking.

Is that for the colors you have now? Can you give a little detail of what the shop did when they painted it? ex.... prep, how many coats, how many clear coats. Anything you can think of really.

I'm really stunned at the prices I'm seeing in this thread. Maybe a paint job isn't as far off as I thought for my truck.

Well if you got that NEW truck you were looking at you wouldnt have to worry about a paint job. :rofl: just sayin lol

mechanical sanding, hand sanding, masking off twice (once for each color), wet sand. not sure on number of coats. im sure it was cheaper because i got a ton of other stuff done too.

the first place that painted it did a ****ty job.

I dunno. I got mine painted a week after I bought it new....

The inside of mine are black. Always have been. The did do the underside of the hood. The only part they didn't do was the firewall.

Do you know if they used a truck durable paint. I can't remember the name of the kind of paint off hand but I know Peterbilt (and probably others) use it. It's harder than most paints.

I hate brainfarts........ starts with an A or an E I think................

Imron 5000/6000 uses 2 double coats on the base coat and clear coat.

Imron (or any of the other brands of polyurethane basecoat/clearcoats) is the top of the line paint for durability.

It's also very expen$ive, and highly toxic.

Just in case anyone is considering using it DIY, I'd like to point out that when applying that type of paint, a full body suit with positive pressure respirator must be used, and no "spectators" allowed in the area of the fumes.

Before OSHA requirement you just used a respirator. My shower used to be stained from all the different colors.

I spent $12,000 to paint my old Pete.Had it done at 4 States and man they did a kick ass job.

I just had my 99 FLD painted 2 tone locally here in Chicago. It was originally dark blue and now it's white and lime green. Guy charged me $4500 and it's deff nice. Once I get a new camera I will post a pic of the new paint.
