how to buy a lightweight truck??

Ive seen on this board someone was saying that buying a light weight truck is a little better for fuel milage. Is finding a lightweight truck based of size of wheel base and motor, both being small ?? Your thoughts??

A light weight truck means you can haul more, nothing else, if you are hauling light weight loads you will get better fuel mileage, if you are getting paid by weight a light weight truck makes sense.

A small engine truck doesn't always get better mileage, sometimes it struggles too much and gets worse fuel mileage.

It takes surprisingly little power to maintain speed, a few thousand pounds won't make much economy difference on flat highway. The most fuel consumption occurs during acceleration and ascending inclines.

Thats one reason why OTR trucks and trains can achieve such high economy despite the extreme weight.

We have an M11 Cummins and a C15 Cat. The C-15 is 2,000 lbs heavier on the steers than the Cat. The M11 also gets much better mileage that the Cat. In this situation, the lighter truck gets better mileage but it's not because of the weight, it's because of the smaller displacement. Got that?
