Is it easier to find work when.....
 

Here's the deal. 2008 wasn't a good year for me.

I now got 2 tickets in the last 3 years, and 3 accidents on my license.

So as you can tell, getting another company job is harder. Especially with the economy like it is.

So my question is:

Is it easier to find work when you own your rig when you have this many tickets?

the experience and mvr requirements are pretty much the same. It will be very hard for you with that record to get hired on either as a O/O or company driver. might have better luck with smaller companies, good luck

Thanks for the information about myself getting a job.

So what you are saying is that it's equal chances, weather your a O/O or company driver? The scales don't tip either way, even by a little??

not really, it's still all about insurance compamies amd risk

Most insurance companies will allow you 3 ticket as long as you aren't going too fast. Add the 3 accidents and you will find it next to impossible to find something as long as those are on your MVR. I have a friend who had a very difficult time getting approved by a carrier as an owner operator due to his driving record. He had a speeding ticket or two and I think he ran a red light or something equally as damaging. I think he may also have had a minor accident. He finally got one to take him on but he is on probation. One more incident and he is history.

Ok....so everything has to be on the MVR...guess I should check that first.

I threw my record in to have a basis of a record as a, let face it, a risk. What I'm wondering is when a driver has a record like mine, which would be his best bet--- either get a job as company driver, and wait out the three years...

or get a tractor, and lease on, or go at getting their own authority?

You can have your own authority pretty easy.the problem is when you try to get insurance.With so many tickets,accidents it extremely hard for them to qualify you on insurance.Remember ,these insurance companies have their business based on how much risk you are for them.They can make you or brake you very very easy.

Whether you are a company driver, owner operator or have your own authority the qualifications are pretty much the same. You may or many not have an edge with your own truck. Insurance companies don't really care whether you own the truck or the company. The risk to them is the same. You might find someone to insure you under your own authority but you will need very deep pockets, providing you can find someone who will insure you. Companies will check you MVR, DAC and work history. The insurance company wants to know how long you have had a CDL and check your MVR.

Most insurance companies will allow up to 3 moving violations, depending on their severity. I have seen drivers disqualified with a single speeding ticket. Again, it depends on the severity or how fast you were traveling. No matter which way you go it is going to be difficult to get past your record. My advice is to get a copy of your MVR and see what is actually on it.
