cost plus discount - QPN

Anyone have this discount?

Quality Fuel Networks

QPN Fuel Prices

Some pretty heavy discounts there.

Some folks over at the kevinonxm website have this discount, I wonder if it's available to individual o/o's. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Some of the larger carriers offer cost plus fuel pricing at TA. A friend of mine saved about $0.50/gallon at one fuel stop the other day. I would think the cost plus pricing would vary from one carrier to another depending on the size of their operation.

Rev.Vassago 12-08-2008 12:40 AM

The best I've done recently at Landstar is $0.60 per gallon off the pump price (I paid $2.14, and the pump price was $2.74). I've been consistently paying about $2.15 - $2.20 per gallon for diesel lately.

allan5oh 12-08-2008 06:40 AM

Rev, that seems about the same as this cost plus network. One thing I noticed, there's no major chains in it, it's all smaller places. Downside is showers may not be the best. That's a major downside to me.

Rev.Vassago 12-08-2008 07:05 AM

With Landstar, the Cost Plus is only at T/A and Petro.

For example, at the T/A in Knoxville, TN (I-40 @ exit 374), the actual pump price is $2.399. My price under the Cost Plus system is $1.910.

Just goes to show you what kind of a markup these truckstops are putting on their fuel.

allan5oh 12-08-2008 08:57 AM

hmm... looks like t/a and petro are in the program:

12/6/2008 104430 TA Knoxville East TN Knoxville I-40/75 Exit 374 $ 0.020 $ 2.034 $ 1.864

$2.034 is the "max price". It could be less.

Wouldn't be surprised if your system is a little cheaper Rev.

Did you talk to them? Is it possible for a single O/O to get on the program,or could we pool our resources here and sign up?

The fuel, the food, the drinks, the gadgets, the the the........anything else they feel a truck driver needs to pay for.

Any bets as to how long before they start putting coin locks on the stalls and urinals??? :D:D

Had something unexpected come up today, and completely forgot.

I got my fuel card thru Apex Capital, my factoring company. Was very skeptical at first but the discounts have been fantastic. In fact, the last two months my fuel discounts have exceeded my factoring costs so I'm getting all my invoices factored basically for free.

TA and Pilot are the major chains on my card that offer cost plus. TA gives you the discount at the time of the transaction while Pilot waits and gives you a monthly rebate, so I have been primarily using TA.

RostyC 12-09-2008 07:48 AM

I have a fuelman card but since I'm home daily it's cheaper for me to use the local filling station for fuel. However it's still not 1.91 gal.

Rev, does Landstar offer the same discounts to the broker carriers that have there savings card? I recently signed up with Landstar but haven't filled out the Cost plus card application, or whatever they call it for broker carriers.

BanditsCousin 12-09-2008 09:33 AM

United has a deal with Comdata and Transadvantage for discounts on diesel at Pilot, TA, and Petro. I forget what it is, sice I use my own debit card and not Comdata.

RostyC if you are parking at home why not just get a tank for the house. That's what I do and it is consistently .30 cheaper over the best pump price I can find and I don't have to fight with 4 wheelers to get fuel, well aside from my own :)

What kind of costs are associated with that? Tank rental or do you just buy the tank? If so how much for a tank? I saw one guy do that but didn't get the chance to ask. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I can't say. The Cost Plus discount is automatically applied whenever I use my Comdata card. If I don't use the Comdata card, I don't get the discount.

RostyC give Carroll Fuels a call at (410) 235-1066

I use LS Fuels out of town here but they would not go as far as your house. I paid a deposit on the tank and have automated delivery (once a week) there is a minimum delivery charge but if I take over 300 gallons, delivery is included in the fuel price. Basically you just need to have enough money to fill it up for the first time and a small deposit.

Sorry about the hijack Allan5oh

NP, I started this thread to maybe help a few folks out, your doing the same.

Set your rates high enough and you do not need to dance thru those hoops............................................. ......................... This is one of many steps in how to run a profitable biz...............

That is an incredibly foolish statement. I don't care what your rates are a good business man is always looking for ways to operate more efficiently in order to edge out the competition. And if you are suggesting you make no effort to control or reduce spending on what is now the largest expense for a trucking company you are absolutely running a sophomoric business that will surely fail.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.

I suppose you also tell your employees to fuel your trucks at wherever the price is the highest.

Yet again you are wrong......:lol2:

We use CFN and Pacific Pride, plenty of savings with either.... also my drivers are issued a company AMEX....... including another driver I am bringing on, so I can get out of the truck.................... Its funny.... didn't need to advertise the opening for a run of the mill dweller either....

Again it comes back to rates, revenue and net profit........ Not the cash flow mirage most dwellers think is profit.....

Let's say you have 3 trucks. Each truck runs 100,000 miles a year. Each truck gets 6mpg. Lets say with some smart planning you can get 20 cents off a gallon of fuel. That 20 cents will be 100% pure profit of $10,000. You would clearly have to be a fool to think that matters. I mean what owner in their right mind would want an extra 10k in YOUR pocket?

I have not used a load board or a broker in over a decade nor am I leased on with anyone.I have my own authority and own contracts. I do agree with you that it is all about rates revenue and net profit but fail to understand where you think fuel does not play into that. Profit is a variable that YOU can control and I would argue should.

Once again, you are 100% correct.

A friend of mine just leased on to a carrier and is getting a good discount on his fuel at TA. He saved about $0.40 or $0.50/gallon at one stop.

We were leased to a carrier that offered fuel pricing a few years ago. The savings were determined by the number of truck from that carrier (o/o or company driver- didn't matter) at THAT truck stop. Not at any TA or any Petro, but if 5 trucks fueled at the SAME TA that day they got a good discount on the fuel.

Flying J offered no discount.

When we left that company and leased to a carrier with no fuel program, we found that Flying J tended to have the best pricing when you don't get a group rate. Not always- you can find a spot here or there where another truck stop has a better fuel price and the fuel prices being so high kind of made things even out a bit.

We've been pretty well dedicated Flying Jers for years now.

A little off topic, but still.

GMAN 12-12-2008 02:20 PM

I remember when I was leased to Landstar several years back that they offered some discounts at TA if you used their fuel card. At that time I came out about as well at the Flying J even after my fuel discounts. Perhaps they are getting deeper discounts now than they did back then. We didn't have a fuel surcharge to cushion the high cost of fuel. I don't care much for Flying J but they do seem to offer the best fuel prices for the owner operator or smaller operator. Flying J does offer discounts on fuel based upon the number of gallons you purchase during the course of a month.
