KenWorth W-900 Mileage??

HI All,

A quick question to all you W9 owners. What kind of MPG are you getting and your final drive ratio if ya know it. I am thinking about trading in my FRT Century for a W9 ...
Thanks, yall

well on the truck that i used to drive.

96 w 900

3406 E dyno`d at 497 at the wheels

eaton fuller 18 speed but can not remember the exact model

3.55 rears

and driving it reasonably i would get 5.2 round trip.

that was running Michigan to eastern PA and western NY state.

usually would set the cruse at about 65 and just roll with it.

now when you kept it over 70 the mileage woudl drop to around 4.8

I was really in the mood for a W900 at one point. I spoke with a number of owners and that helped to change my mind. Most seemed to get from about 4.5-5.5 mpg. Of course, much of your fuel mileage depends on how you drive, but that is a really big, flat hood out front of you. They are a great looking truck, but don't buy it for the fuel mileage, no matter how it is geared.

My w900L gets about 1.7 to 2.4, on a good day :( If I am down hill and empty with a tail wind. Last year for all miles, I averaged 2.17 MPG.
Oh I should say it has a double frame, 4 axles, 148 inch sleeper, 360 gallons of fuel and pulls a 3+3+3 Trail King trailer. Empty weight, 1/2 tanks, 76200 so don't take this as average when looking at trucks :)
Like GMAN said the great big radiator and hood is gona cut you down, have to look at "Do you want classic or make $$s". 900's are great trucks, have owned several over the years, but have 0 airodynamics.

My W900 had 3:55's, 3406e, 10 sp. I got 5mpg just about no matter what, loaded, unloaded, down wind, up wind....whatever. But I did love that truck :-)

WTF is it. You now MUST post pictures or die.

forget the W9 unless you have a lot of money to throw away on fuel.

just get a T660 so you can enjoy the W9 interior and have fuel saving aerodynamics on the exterior. Best of both worlds.

Of course if you are desiring the visibility restriction of a big hood, then just apply duct tape to appropriate areas of the T660 windshield and then you will get the same effect.

See..... Problem solved!

Thanks all for the info, I kind of thought that was the case seeing as they have all the stuff hanging off and the square rad, air cans, etc etc

I was thinking of a change due to my Century needing a new air compressor, "pumpim oil into the drier" but think I'll just install the $765 compressor and keep her running.

GMAN, Did I talk to you in Portland Oregon back in the winter,, said you hurt your leg on a flatbed??

Thanks

It could be if you stopped in at Jubitz. I spent several days there with my leg and trying to find a decent paying load out.
