Does this sound like a good deal?

Been driving for 10 years mainly flats. There is a small company near my house that makes parts for wind turbines. They provide the trailer and you supply your tractor. They pay $2.50 per mile for flatbed loads and $3.50 per mile for O.D loads. The loads originate here in Texas and go to Texas,Oklahoma,Kansas,Nebraska and some California. You pick up a backhaul to Texas. Does this sound like a good deal.Everything will be in writing as far as pay. They provide the permits.Going to look at tractors on Monday to get an idea on prices. Thanks for any info.

That seems kind of low to me.

If they provide you with plates, cargo insurance, permits, and such it does not sound too bad of a deal honestley. As long as you dont need your own authority and run under their ICC, you are just an Independant Contractor just like any other O/O who runs under a lease with a company like SNI, Werner, JB just to name a few.

And SNI is only paying $1.55 per mile with FSC included, but I have nothing else to pay but bobtail insurance and fuel tax, so it's not that bad really, but my trucks paid off.

The $2.50 per mile is plus the FSC.They cover all permits, plates, and insurance.I pay for fuel, bobtail insurance.Any O.D permits they furnish as well. All loads are preloaded and no tarp. The drivers I have talked to say that 90% of the backhauls are no tarp as well.Alot of the backhauls are preloaded.I looked at one of their contracts and everything is in writing.

In that case, it sounds a lot better.

So is 2.50pm for ALL miles? OR do you leave TX with 2.50pm and come back to TX with a backhaul?

steelhauler2008 06-10-2008 02:03 AM

No the $2.50 is for all miles if regular flatbed freight. If you deadhead back, you are paid $2.50 per mile.If you haul a O.D load at $3.50 per mile and deadhead back you are paid $2.50 per mile.

Well I signed the papers on my truck today, head down to the yard tomorrow and sign the contract and get my permits.Purchased a 2006 Pete. The company won't take any tractors over 4 years old.Everything seems to be on the level.

On the face of it, it appears to be a good deal. But go over all of the paperwork with a fine tooth comb, so that a " Gotcha " does not appear. If at all possible have your attorney look it over... worth the couple hundred bucks to have it done... Good Luck

Well I finished my first two weeks as an Owner/op.All my loads were O.D.The shortest length being 70ft.Hauled everything from Coleman Tx. to Ardmore,Ok.Hauled parts back to Coleman. After all is said and done I cleared $20,000 for the two weeks. Is this pretty good?Am new at this owner/op thing.Everything has been what the company said it would be.Next week will be hauling wind turbine blades from Coleman to Ardmore.See how that goes.
