Lease/Owner Operator- Reefer,Flatbed,Tanker.
 

As lease/owner operators, in your opinion, which of these segments has the greatest earning potential.

reefer in the winter and deck in the summer. can't say about tanks.

Is it safe to say that refrigerated is the most consistant of the three.

I have not done reefer,but I have talked to many guys doing various jobs and from what I experienced this last year,I will never(never say never) leave tank hauling,most money 188+k and not rediculous miles 121+k.

I don't know which is better, but the more I'm out here talking to people, it seems like leasing to a carrier with a decent fuel surcharge and fuel discount and all of that and seems like they can do better than running with own authority.

Of course I could never ever do that nor am I comtemplating that as I like being in charge of my own affairs.

I will say as to which type of equipment is better, it seems that it depends on the area you are going to run. I think without a reefer in Florida you either need to not go home or starve.

Would that be feasible though? How would that affect your insurance? I wonder what the added expenses would be and if it would be worth it? Also leaving something sit that long usually isn't good for it, but a trailer maybe different, I dunno.

My preliminary numbers for 07 are showing a little higher than $188k and my reported miles are 104,317. You can make money with your own authority, just do not rely on brokers or follow the SteveBooth plan of profitability.

I think it has something to do with location! Around here because of the Steel mills, guys seem to be doing very well with flatbeds!

Big D, you know I know nothing basically and am just trying to figure things out. So with that said, I have been wondering what type of miles and revenue I should be producing for the year.

A quick question, really 2 of them. Is the 104,317 miles all the miles on the truck including say a trip to the shop when you are home? I mean is that every single mile on the truck?

Also if I'm not mistaken, you have 2 trucks. Were both trucks at about the same rate/ mileage?
