Still don't want to brake for deer?
Just got a call from a friend.
Last week he smoked a doe. His pickup truck was unmovable, and the airbag deployed. Now he tells me, $10,400 damage. I can only imagine how much more $ if a rig hit it. Especially one without a deer bumper. Now imagine if it wasn't a deer, but rather a moose. You don't have the luxury of time to tell the difference. It's either brake, or don't brake. |
I've never actually hit a deer, I've been hit by two deer though.

Me too! '64 Comet and '58 Chevy in upstate NY. Tied one on the trunk and went to State Troopers to report it. Trooper said how'd he know I didn't jacklight the thing. Being a wiseguy 19 year old I said yep, then I rammed its head into my door til it left a dent, smeared some blood on the paint and then drove over here to tell you all about it. At least he had a sense of humor, looking back I guess he could have stuck my butt in a cell for the night.
About $5 for bondo, sandpaper and spray paint I think back then! |
Braking...good.
Swerving...bad. Some people don't know the difference. |
Yup, after 29 years I have had only 2, yup 2 deer hits...left lotsa rubber on the road tho...probly some brake dust too!

I seem to average one every 1.5 years. I now have a nice deer bumper.
I almost hit a moose once too. If I didn't brake, my truck would've been a total loss. It was a matter of feet. |

I want one of those bumpers just to protect my truck from other trucks at a truckstop. I saw a couple of days ago,...a driver backed right into the corner of this really nice Pete,...took out the whole pass side front area, and didn't stop untill he hit the tire
