How much can I get for my truck?

I was just wondering what you guys thought I could sell my truck for if I needed to. I am having trouble with my neck and was just preparing for the worst. Its a 99' International 9200i daycab, I just had a complete in-frame rebuild with a new head and turbo, all of the wheel cylinders done, new brakes all the way around, brand new(2 weeks old) Jost fifth-wheel, new in-dash GPS/DVD unit with all new speakers. Thats all I can think of now, oh yeah its got a Cat c-12 with an eaton fuller 10 speed trans. Its got 630,941 miles as it sits with 2,800 miles on the in-frame overhaul. The truck runs like a champ and it sucks it might turn out this way for me but you gotta do what you gotta do right? Thanks for looking and God Bless!

Taking a rough guess but probley about 15 to 20k

4GIVEN 12-17-2007 04:52 PM

Man thats pretty low. I've seen trucks in a lot worse shape than mine going for 40-50k. Why do you think its only worth 15-20k? Everything is basically new including the engine. The place that did my rebuild said the clutch still had about 85-90% left also. The only thing I can see this truck needing is mabye some steer tires soon. Other than that its in great shape inside and out. Its a pretty dark pearl blue with dual chrome stacks and nice aluminum wheels. I guess because its a 99' and a daycab its not worth that much. Thanks for your response.

It's definitely worth more, but....
Reality is that what it worth, and what you, as an individual, could practically sell it, is two different things!
I'm no way an expert on the truck prices  :D , but if you are not in a hurry, you could probably hit 25-30 range...forget about 40-50!

Do a search on Truckpaper.com. For your year and the smaller engine, prices run $20-25,000. They have fewer miles but no overhaul. The market for daycabs tends to be very localized, so your area may have higher pricing than others. Like Solo said, if you're able to bide your time waiting to sell, you'll increase the odds of finding someone looking for the specific things your truck has.

I'm hoping not to sell this thing. I absolutely love this truck, I just hope my neck will heal up so I can drive again. But I will keep in mind what everyone is saying. Thanks for your responses!

The only prolem I see with your truck is the C12 Cat. If it had a C13 or C15 it would easly be worth $30,000 to $35,000 but with the C12 I would say the most you could get for it would be $27,000 to $30,000.

What kind of fuel mileage do you get with it?

Potential selling point.

4GIVEN 12-18-2007 01:19 AM

Well I get around 6-6.2 mpg's. Whats wrong with the C-12? I heard they had some problems with them but the updated parts took care of those known problems. Either way I guess 27-35k isnt that bad.

The reason people are going to pay less for your truck is because of that the C12 is a little motor. Would you pay the same for a truck with a C12 if you could get the same truck with less miles with a C15?

I got the results from my MRI today and it says that I have "Bone degeneration and bulging discs on multiple levels". This of course is in my neck. This is by far the worst news I've heard in a while and dont know what to do. Should I wait it out and see if its going to get any better and try to keep trucking? Right now its pretty painful and its hard to turn my head to the left. Good thing the injury happened at work, but i'm only getting $620 a week from disability so its hard to pay all the bills. And what if I try to drive again and the injury keeps me from driving? And this all had to happen before Christmas. But even in this trying time I still remember what God did for me by sending his son to die for my sins, and you know what......, it makes all this turmoil seem like nothing. God bless and Merry Christmas!!

I am sorry to hear about your neck, 4Given. If you decide to sell your truck, perhaps you could buy some real estate and generate some additional income.

4GIVEN 12-19-2007 01:20 PM

Thats a great idea, thanks GMAN!! I'll check into that. I might try to become a frieght broker also.

LexAtlanta 12-19-2007 05:19 PM

G-Man's idea of buying real estate is great! That market - for most of the country - is in the toilet so you might be able to find a good deal on an income producing duplex, triplex or quad. As to the value of your truck..........it is worth what someone will pay you for it

Your best bet is to sell to a private party rather then a dealer or wholesaler. Both of those guys will need to make a profit when they flip it so that means they have to pay less for it. An end user would be willing to pay more since he (or she) will be the one that runs it. You might try e-bay motors. I look at their auctions frequently and am sometimes amazed at the high prices people pay for trucks. The heavy truck trader is also an option.

BOL on the neck and what ever you decide to do.

4GIVEN 12-19-2007 10:21 PM

Thanks for the input Lex, hopefully I will figure something out. Im going in for physical therapy tomorrow and I will see if there is something I can do that will let me drive again. Thanks again!!

Some advise. If someone yells out "Hey look, it's Paris Hilton"...DO NOT turn your head quick to look.

Check into a therapy called "compression" or something like that. I think it is new and through certain chiropractors. Think outside the box and check into everything. New stuff comes out and then not all MDs know about it or recommend it. Don't just trust one MD or place. Exhaust all possibilities, with the knife being the very last on the list.
