Checking On Agents

So how do I check an Agent? I have this guy that was advertising to get more help and will train FREE now trying to get me to work up a Database for all kinds of Freight Shippers and Freight Delivers (You Guys)

Need to know if it is all Smoke

Marty Thomas is his name and NJ is his location

He was advertising on clickload.com

I am a web developer first and a wannabie trucker second but with my no luck in finding a company that wants my old butt I am looking at a different angle.

GMAN 11-24-2007 10:10 AM

I am not familiar with this guy. If he is an agent then he represents a broker or carrier. You could ask for references. You could also talk to someone with his company. He may just want to use you to do his prospecting.

Ok in his ad said he was hireing many more agents so it looks like he is either a brokerage or trying to look like one.

He was looking for someone in AZ saying he has no agents there. But it should not matter anyway with using the phone. I am looking to do this from home as I am on my computer everyday anyway for the past 20 plus years.

Well I am working up a very nice data base for companys and truckers to find each other on so maybe I will just keep working on this application for myself.

If he will not answer all my questions.

What should I be asking?

Shouldn't he have some kind of lic or authority plus a Bond?

It would be very easy for me to add a Load Board also into the application.

Thanks

Ask for his MC number, that's a good start.

GMAN 11-24-2007 03:02 PM

If he is booking freight then he will either need motor carrier or broker authority. No_worries is correct about asking for his MC number. Once you have his number you can go to the fmcra website and check his authority. There is more information available on him on the site. If he is a broker he will need a bond. It is easy to see whether his bond is in effect and whether it has been filed on.

Tomorrow I get a bunch of info plus his MC number so I can make since out of it.

I will check his number, I have the web site to do that.
Does 50% of Gross Profit sound right to broker for another company?
Guess that is what is left after paying the Carrier for the load.

My application I am doing is going well but I have my doubts if Motor Freight Carriers and Shippers would pay another company to have that info at hand.

I'm saving a domain for another project

GB are you building a Shipper database and a Carrier database? I have been chasing freight and collecting shippers daily for over 10 years now. I have binders filling 3 boxes (paper reams) and dont know where, how to save in my computer. I started using spreadsheets, but it lugged the computer speed so, I quit storing in computer and continue to update the binders and we work different areas/binders. My point is maybe we can combine my shipper info with your computer info for a win-win situation.

Load It

The general plan is something like that but have Shippers and Carriers use a input form and put their info in and it goes directly into a database.
Then they have access to all the data for a small fee. Right now I am more or less trying out different data base applications to see which one is best for the job. This may be a slow process because now I am learning to be a Transportation Agent, Shipping Broker, call it anything you want but I am stepping out into the big world with Regal, Inc and as of today working under their MC #

Funny today I was suppose to start driving school in Missoula for W/S but they killed that idea for me. Maybe at my age (65) being an agent in a warm Home Office is better. Now I got to make my computer work for me. Get on couple load boards and also call hundreds of companys from lists they are providing right now. I'm just working AZ companys right now. Marty has ideas for me but I also have some of my own.

Don't tell me I am crazy, I already have known that.

GB- if that is Regal Services out of NY, they are good people. If not, I dont know them, but you have to get your feet wet somewhere.

Get Loaded

I forgot to tell you a good program for you and all your boxes of data may be to try for 30 free days what I am messing with. You can build an input screen from a master they have, just change things to input what data you want. It may take forever but you will have access to it and can search it many ways. Problem I have not figured out for mine is how do I give logins to 100,000 people and protect my ever changing data and keeping it safe without paying for some special programming the company wants.

Go here and look at the program.

What is a good source of information or load board for agents to use for finding loads that are not already posted by an agent?

I'm working off an outdated list today.

Thats why I need my program up.

I feel like a new O/O driver out there that does not know what he is doing yet but I like talking to people.

Your best bet is to get an Arizona manufacturers directory and start calling or ask your Company for some Arizona leads since they recruited you because you live in AZ. Call Western Organics Tempe, Genesis Worldwide Cottonwood, Carlsbad Produce Nogales. Good Luck!

O Yeah I got some leads from some old list today my Boss gave me.
Every other call I get the funny tone and then a little lady comes on and tells me the number you dialed is either no longer in , well you know the story.

I got me some list with a 24 hr free access today, (regular 90.00 bucks a month) I will work tomorrow. Well it is keeping me out of trouble.

I am working with one company I may get 4 loads from. If you know (who) does not price it sky high like he did on one already today.
3 bucks pm would be good for a O/O but they only wanted to pay Buck 65 for a load going only 247 miles.

It's all a learning process.

I had a guy offer me $0.76/mile a few days ago. These people really need to stay off the drugs.

well I got a quote to give a person for a load, 3.05 pm and I figure we could offer the truck 2 bucks but the company was only willing to go 1.63 pm

I have in my mind to give the truck more I think because I have been reading this place for too long and realize what is needed to make the O/O a happier person. I should get to be a Greedy Agent Right? Wrong

Working on 4 loads today and hope my numbers are OK

joined expediteloads.com yesterday for a 1.95 15 day ride to see if I want to Pay 35 bucks a month.

Suppose to have MFG listings also.

that's a slap in the face.... Im a company driver and get .56/for all miles..

GMAN 11-30-2007 02:38 PM

Loads coming out of California and the West are typically cheap. It takes a lot of work to find decent paying loads coming out. The brokers say that it is the shippers. Of course that may be part of it, but I think many of these brokers are double brokering or skimming off the top. Freight in the Midwest and Southeast are usually higher. After being offered $0.76 earlier this week, I was offered a load for $4/mile today. It was a different area of the country. Go figure.

After visiting this site it looks like microsoft office integrated into web format to create forms automatically using frontpage, outlook, excel and access. If anyone is unfamiliar with the programs. Outlook does email,Frontpage is an html editor to create a webpage,Excel creates spreadsheets and Access searches the data in spreadsheets.

All of these programs are pretty user friendly and easily learned. If your time is worth more than what they charge, I guess it's worth it to pay somebody else. I haven't used access in a long time but remember it's an ms program to gather data by zip code, date or what ever data your search is tailored to. I think it's called a querrie when you create a specific data search in access to search data stored in an excel spread sheet. You can search google for excel or access tutorials, or could buy the dummies books to help. Initially it might be a little time consuming but will pay off in the end and you will be glad you did it as they really make your life easier. Microsoft also has a bunch of free templates here if anyone wants to check them out.
