question about a tag on a tri axle.

This is a ? about tags on a tri axle. dump. In pa you can only get a tag for 73280lbs. We live real close to DE NJ. DE is 73280 but Nj is 80000lbs on a 4 axle truck. So with the truck being taged in PA can we on the apportion tag if we could get jersey at 80000lbs. So if we get loaded in jersey and dump in jersey we can haul 80000lbs. Cuz right now it says 73280. By the way the weight rateing on the door of the truck is 80000lbs so thats not a problem. Me and my dad where takin about it.

Do any of you understand my question.

The apportion tag reads like this now
PA-73280
NJ-73280
DE-73280

We want it to read like this
PA-73280
NJ-80000
De-73280

I went thru rounds with the MVA about this one. As far as Maryland is concerned you can only have one weight on your cab card. Mine is like this

MD-73280
PA-73280
NJ-73280
DE-73280
DC-73280
VA-73280

But in DC and Va I can only gross 54280(federal bridge law) and MD I can only go 70000.

And of course if you are over your RGVW (registered) you are illegal regardless of your chassis GVW.

Well how can you be taged for 73280 in MD when a tri-axle can only haul 70000. So could we pay the higher price of the tag and get all 3 states tagged for 80000???

Yes, but you would be limited too whatever the weight limit for the state you are in.

Thanks Maryland well it wouldnt be worth the xtra cost for us. So we will stick with 73280.

Maryland got this off of the PA dmv website. You sure MD dont do it like this.

List the weight to be carried in each state in which apportioned
registration is desired.
For each jurisdiction, the gross weight for single truck or the combined
gross weight for combination units must be shown for each power unit
apportioned.
An applicant may elect to register a vehicle at a different gross vehicle
weight in member jurisdictions. Example: if the applicant desires to
register in Iowa at 80,000 pounds and only 74,000 pounds in Texas, the
applicant must show 80,000 pounds for Iowa and 74,000 for Texas. the
applicant will pay the Iowa fees based on 80,000 pounds and the TExas
fees based on 74,000 pounds. The cab card issued with indicate the
applicant has paid fees for a combined weight of 80m,000 pounds in
Iowa and 74,000 in Texas.

My truck is tagged for 80k in Indiana. I can't haul that much due to the truck not having enough axles. But I can haul 80k in KY, but not on the interstate  . Only on secondary roads. In Indiana I can haul only 68k legally. Even then, I'd still be over on my drives

Mackman, I got stuck with only being allowed to do the same in all the states. I went rounds with them at the MVA about it. But who knows, I might have gotten a different answer at a different mva.
