I actually like my brokers.
I have a list that I use and I give them good service
and they throw me a bone now and then.
I had one direct shipper and it was hard trying to coordinate
my week to cover them.
I make my calls to my brokers and plan my next week
I use the load board to connect the dots (at least try to connect the dots)
the only reason I was confident with my authority is that I was given a list of proven brokers and a map of where to go and why.
I use a couple of brokers now who rarely post on the net.
and I am hooked up directly with some big cold storage warehouses
but they pay exactly the same as the other brokers no big advantage

IIRC, we moved 103 backhauls last year. 40 of those were with one broker and shipper. He is a good broker because the shipper allows him to be. The shipper pays well and they expect on time arrival, trouble free loading an trouble free delivery. The shipper doesn't put up with double brokering. If a mystery truck shows up, the shipper gives the MC # to the broker and the broker calls them direct next time.

This is the way it should be. They rarely have any problems that I know of.
