First non-paying broker
 

Hmmm their kind of a good sized company ...so I didnt expect this..........Logistics America

Well this is the deal deivered a load for them about 70 days ago......had agreed to 2,400 ...invoiced themn with rate agreement and bills about 60 days ago....n they said they were a 30 day payer.

Ive been hounding the broker Ean for about two weeks now......and he finally admited their short funds even tho the shipper payed him...cuz i was wondering what the hell the problem was cuz he has been giving me the run around for almost two weeks.

So going to ding their credit tommorow through a collection agent ......and going to call the shipper and request payment.

Say I got the load thru get loaded.com or internet truck stop....how do i report to them Logistics America is a non-payer?

Call their bond company first thing tomorrow morning. Should have done that on day 31. Depending on what they have to tell you, then you can call the shipper.

If there is money left on the bond, you should have your money in a week or two. You kept a copy of the BOL and rate sheet right?

forgot about calling their bond,....umm how do you find out who their bond is?
I mean dont they file the bond with a company...not sure how that works?....only been a carrier about 6 months now so ...so much I dont know

last time I talked to OOida they said some goods the bond wont cover...is electronic refrigeration goods 1?....doubt it but so much I dont know.

what's their MC#?

some freight is exempt from a bond claim. with an MC# you can find the bond issuer's tel # in about 2 minutes.

Pepe sorry to digress here, but I see that you are thinking of joining Landstar, what happened? I know you had low expenses, what has been your biggest problem? Curious to hear your experiences.

Well just think I can make more $ there.....and still have all the benififts of my independence. I mean I am making it and keeping myself afloat, but this is getting to be too much headache when I can possibly make the same or more at Landstar I am coming to the conclusion of since talking to Landstar drivers.

I mean all the headaches of running you own authority versus the profits in pay is not really making me excited about my first year as a carrier.

I quess its my own fault tho in one sense...that I am not aggresive enough to find shippers, but it isnt an easy process I will tell you, and getting $ out of brokers I'd rather pull teeth from rattlesnakes for a living :-p....even with Load its good tips on shippers nothing seems to work-out for me.

I wont lease some where I dont have the same freedom though...landstar or somewhere similar is all I will consider.

Pepe, I am sorry to hear about the problem with Logistics America. They should have sent you a copy of their bond information in their packet. You can also go to the Safer website and get current information and see if the bond is still good. You can find it with their MC number. Of course, the MC number should have also been in the packet they sent you. I would not want to wait too long to file. You may just threaten to file on them to see if that works. I had one not too long ago that I did that and got paid ASAP. I had my money in hand within about 3 days. Most legitimate brokers don't want you to file on their bond.

Well I wish you the best anyway Pepe, and obviously I'm even newer than you are so I can't be offering advice and I don't know what Landstar drivers make, obviously up to the individual but seem to me that most people inflate their numbers or deflate their expenses.

I went to the site and clicked "company info" and it said "coming soon". gimme a break.

They must have faxed you a copy of their bond info and broker authority when you signed up with them. Please tell me you created a file with all that info in it.

If not, call them and ask for their MC#. Then tell them you will be filing on the bond this afternoon. Not Tomorrow. THIS AFTERNOON unless they send you a comcheck (which they won't likely do). They will offer to send a check. Tell them OK and hang up the phone and call the bond!

It's good to remember that you don't need anyone's permission to file on a bond! I make one phone call to the broker, and don't care what the excuse is. I am polite and try to end the call on a positive note. The second I hang up the phone, I fax the required info to the trust company. If I get a nasty call from the broker for dinging his credit, I apologize profusely and explain that my "accountant" handles the collections and I have nothing to do with it. Don't let these guys walk on you.

I guess you haven't got their paper work? You didn't call them did you? Pepe, Pepe, Pepe. What are we going to do with you?

I got screwed out of one load last year because I waited too long to file on the bond. I agree with the others; "get on it" and call their bond company. I have to pay my bills, and I have NO sympathy anymore for these brokers that won't pay their bills. :x

I just tried to look them up a number of different ways and can't find them.
Internet Truck Stop has no info on them and neither does the Safer site.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I have been leased to other carriers for all of my trucking carreer and when I get home next year I'LL be trying to do my own authority. I don't like the lack of total independence that I have seen being leased to some-one else. I was with Landstar and quit after the first year. I did'nt like it because they were to cold n uncareing.

They seem to fire people for no or very small reasons ??? Some people praise them but I'm not one of them. Some people have been with them for a long long time and done well. But a lot of others don't. I was with a outfit called Greentree 1800-233-3262 that treated me well before I parked mine and came over here. I hope you get this problem taken care of.

Did you see that post about a guy that had the same problem you did and then went n loaded another load for the same outfit n called them from the truckstop after he loaded n told them he had their load on and that as soon as they got right with him he would deliver the freight ??? Then after he got the check on a comcheck he took the load back to the shipper and made them take it off n left !!! JUST A IDEA FOR YOU ???

Think that pisses me he admits the shipper payed him...if the shipper didnt...I could feel some sympathy...hes feeding himself well on my $ while i eat caned goods :-p
Well screw this own authority though like i said...its too much hassels in my opinion and not worth all the extra work i gotta do n problems that the lease Co would handle......
I quess im just being kinda lazy, but I cant help but notice that all the many problems im facing its not worth the little extra $ im getting versus leasing somewhere good.
I dont want to get big...so im better posibly to lease next year I think.

Pepe- you are being kinda lazy. When you go to a lease company, you wont be satisfied with the 19 year old dispatcher booking your loads, so you will find your own loads (what you are already doing), then they will take their cut and not pay you until your broker pays them, how do you know when the broker paid them? Now you still have a problem and you have it for less revenue.
You should concentrate on finding 4 trucks to lease on to your authority, pay them 75%. Now you have about 100% revenue of 1 truck coming in with little expense, you could do 2 things. 1. run your truck and collect the 100% or 2. collect the 100%, lease out your truck and sit home keeping the 4 trucks busy. You cant be in this business without headaches, so choose your migraine.

There are plenty of guys looking for a good place to lease their trucks. I have given Pepe half dozen shippers in his area that need trucks daily. He could start there. The best way to start a trucking company is with owner operators. I think the question should be "Why would a guy get his own authority when Pepe can lease him own and make him rich?"

You know I have been thinking of othis for the future. Actually I met someone the other day in a truckstop and we exchanged phone numbers and he wanted to do that. He spoke basically no English and I was helping him with a couple of things. I think this type of scenario might work out for me once I hit two years and can get better insurance.

because people are lazy. Everybody wants to drive the truck but they don't want to do any of the things required to make the truck run.

Thks all for the suggestions (been too busy to respond)....yeah the last ideas make sense...but not really for me, think it will be better for Merrick.
Lot of people commented when I first got my authority I was just, 'buying a job' and their right cuz of my unuque sitauation with my wife in the Philippines....it just wouldnt work for me trying to be the next landstar right now lol...wife would shoot me for not seeing her enough.
When I go home I travel 25,000 miles or so to Manila and Im almost due........planning to put the truck in storage soon n sell the trailer so I can head out soon....a lease that is flexable with me would make sense...if there is 1?...where I can come n go as I plz...mulling over my options now.

yes I understand a different headache, but cuz of my married life I think ill be better off with a lease headace right now then own authority...it takes too much time of consistency to delelop a clientel (own authority) and I need to take off soon instead.

Once i held the entire load in my trailer because they did not pay me..
They did next day.

Currently am owed 8K for 2 weeks of work done for a broker out of Illinois, i returned my trailer i was leasing and went to their yard to pick up theirs. Its in my yard now...

No mercy for these lowlife scumbags..

If your going to lease to some-one I would suggest some-one other than Landstar. A lot of people have been with them a long time but they were and still are so rude to some people. I was there 1 year and left because of the people and attitude problems. I was with GreenTree out of Pittsburg Penn. They treated me real real good and have sister companies just like Landstar. Next day pay and no hassells . THeir number is 18002333262. I was there 4 years . I don't think they would squak about you parking the truck to go n see the wife. A lot of the guys I work with over here have girls in the Phillipines that they go n see on RNR. I did'nt mean to rain on anyones contract with Landstar that is doing well with them.

How exactly does this work? I mean what if you get someone who turns out to be lazy? Don't you have to run the under your insurance? So if they don't run you still have to pay the insurnace? I know probably not collision etc, but liability and cargo

For every truck that you lease onto your authority, you cover the cargo and liability each month, you can put it in your contract that the operator will be deducted for this, you can pay it all from your percentage or you can find creative ways to pay it. If you get a lazy job hopper, you may want him to pay by deduction, but if he is lazy the insurance company should allow you to drop that truck and replace it with another truck. To answer your question, yes the insurance still has to be paid if the truck doesnt run.

Here's how it USED to work:
If you were running five or more trucks you would pay by the mile based on your quarterly IFTA reports. The quotes I was getting worked out to around 5 cents a mile. A lazy driver won't penalize you. Less than five trucks, the underwriter wants a flat rate per truck payable up front or financed monthly.

Ummm he finally paid...or at least sent me a check, crossing my fingers to see if his check clears and doesnt bounce :p
Ohhh yaeh and OOida helped me quite a bit with Info and even a shakedown call to Ian......I highly recommend OOIDA as being one of the best moves I ever made as a small O/OP own Auth.
