Tell me about APU's...
Steve, I know you got a new APU recently. How is it working out for you? Anyone else have good advice on what to get, what to avoid?
With this expensive fuel, I am to the point of considering an APU. I sleep down to about 20 degrees outside with the motor off. Summers are harder than winters for me, can't stand the heat. |
My Rigmaster is the cats meow for sure.
I've already seen a big savings in fuel over idling my truck. I really have no complaints and it's so nice in the morning to just reach over, hit a button and the heat comes on. I like the automatic feature the best. You can set a low temp like 45 and when it reaches that mark it fires up until it's 50 inside then shuts off. Works out good when you go to sleep and it's 60 out but gets colder as the night goes on. Mine cost about $7,500 total. The unit was $6,200 and the rest was labor. I'm comfortable ALL the time now instead of putting on a sweater or opening the windows and using a fan. The best feature though is when the temp is just right that you don't need it at all and your running everything off the inverter. When the batteries get to a low point it kicks on automatically and charges the batteries up then shuts off. |
Man, it sounds nice. Lotsa bucks though. But if you are out running steady, it is sure a good thing to contemplate spending the money for.
Guess we'll see how much this clutch costs me today  :x     Between that and the crappy freight rates and high fuel............... |
I've been running pretty steady and now with the cold weather it's really nice to have an APU or any other type of heat instead of idling your truck.
I was in Boise and Twin Falls the other day. Made a comment in my other thread directed to you but I'm assuming you didn't read it. Here's a copy Quote:

Doggone it, I missed it Steve...
Anyhow, I don't fly powered paragliders so you are safe from me flying over your truck unless you park it at the base of a paragliding hill... :) Hope you enjoyed your outing to Idaho. It's nice this time of year. I am cooling my heels in Bend, OR today while they work on my truck. It's taken all day just to get it in the shop so don't imagine I am going anywhere today. Hopefully tomorrow. I have a load on, but it's plastic pipe. That's one + to flatbedding; at least it's not a perishable commodity. |
