Gave up the OTR gig

Well, I did it. After 9 months this year of sitting around way too much waiting for loads, hardly ever getting off time (I had a grand total of about three weeks away from the truck for the entire year when I made my decision), and revenue that just wasn't there, I finally decided to pack it up and give up OTR driving.

And it couldn't have come at a better time.

I got in with one of our local branches (Wausau, WI), and will be running regional/intrastate/local for them. BUT, they have bigger plans for me in the future. As soon as I get a competent labor crew together, I'll start doing office moves, which are beginning to become a HUGE thing in this area. I'll be in a supervisory position when I'm doing that, and will be earning an hourly profit off of each of the guys in my crew. Eventually, I'll possibly end up taking over our Greenville, WI branch, as the head of the Wausau branch is fed up with the management there (Greenville is an extension of Wausau). I'd also eventaully end up putting a driver into my truck, at which point, I'd be home every night.

Why I didn't do this sooner is beyond me, but I'm sure glad I did it when I did.

Cool! Maybe it will be easier on ya, and a little ease on family stuff, hometime, etc. Sounds like a cool gig to get into. Glad that this is better.

My hat's off to bedbuggers. Those guys run all over, and never get home. Get one job kicked off, back on the road to another, and off across the country to unload that one.

Sometimes a management position will wear you down and drive you nuts. You must deal with even more boneheads then when you drive. I will say it must be tried by all to get the full perspective. Good luck on your new adventure.

Congrats, Rev. That can only be a step up. Hope it all works out for you.

Boneheads on the road never bothered me. I've been doing pretty much exactly what I'll end up doing already, as I am responsible for managing my labor crews. I'll just be working with the same people every time, which will be a bonus.

Congratulations Rev, this ones ALL yours today! .

The office moves should be pretty good, I don't know about Wisconsin, but the east coast is just booming with commercial work right now, and someone has to move them. We have a saying in construction "residential puts food on the table, commercial puts money in the bank" and I hope it translates to trucking for you.

Good Luck
