Does it work?

I just wanted to know if any of you O/O's started out as a L/O. how did it work? What company was it with. When you made your last payment, did you feel it was worth it? After you made your last payment did you stay with that company? I have heard all the horror stories of fleecing and such but I figured they can't possibly have a 0% success rate. Just would like to know if it can work.

if you want to do the lease deal you better do your homework and than when you think you know everything, do more homework...

a majority of those who fail are not planning ahead and see their business (its not a job) go down FAST!!!

This board, truck.net, and pumpkindriver.com are good and full of great info

I know a lot of guys who started out in lease/op programs and all of them lost at least a year of their lives to it- meaning, not only did they waste their time during the lease, but they had to did themselves out of the hole the lease created.

I'm sure there is someone, somewhere out there who made it work. Good luck finding him... and ask a lot of questions when you do find him. You may just find out that he just thinks he made it work. There's a difference between thinking you're making money and making money. ;)

I met this one lady, about 5 years ago, who was about to pay off her truck who L/P-ed through Swift. This was 5 years ago so it probably doesn't count. But she always had a trainee in her truck or else they had her hooked up with her own employee. No doubt she and her co drivers juggled and cheated on their logs and stuff to run illegal and very very hard, imho. No doubt when she paid it off, and if she didn't get a new truck w/ them, her miles and accommadations stopped.

If all you want to do in life is pay off a truck.
and absolutely no other interests
You can probably make it as a L/P

I kind of figured that these were the answers. Just every now and then I think it might be nice to own my own truck. But then reality sits in. Thanks for re-enforcing reality for me.

There is nothing wrong with owning your own truck, just do it the old fashioned way by saving enough to make a down payment on a used truck and sign on with a reputable company and go to work.
