brokers that call to cancell Loads
Hmmm you guys say fight n negotiate with them to get the best rates, but I am seeing a pattern here .....on my two best negotiated rates, I got calls latter a couple hours latter saying the load was cancelled.............kind of suspecious they found someone else to run it cheaper cuz I had yet to run a load with either broker yet.
Hmmmm on one I even have a faxed rate confirmation....do I have any recourse here....doubt it really ....just one more example where we are at their mercy :-p Will be reall glad if load-it's shipper contacts work out.........like to tell this broker game good bye :-p |
(TONU) charge Truck ordered not used charge
|
K...I cringe what this process would involve.....I could charge it...and they will ignore it since its not in the rate confirmation what happens when if the load is supposidly cancelled....I suspect this is going to involve a lengthy court battle?
|
Post the broker on the loadboard you got the load from to make sure they get the credit for screwing you. You call the loadboard you subscribe to and report them.
|
Thks Sid ...yeah probably my best option...but dont the brokers pay a subscription rate too?
So probably wouldnt go that far if they are a customer too.......well just another example where IMO the brokers have the edge most of the time :-p |
Yeah they likely found a cheaper truck. I usually write my TNU terms on the confirmation before I fax it back to them. Only once have I ailed to collect.
Post the brokers name and MC number of they don't pay so I can add them to my no load list. |
That's how they get their ratings. From feedback from carriers.

On the TNU....I suspect though that ALL brokers write somewhere in the long contract you sign, to set-up, that they are NOT reasponsible for cancelled loads......dunoo...I am on new ground here being a new carrier and making all kinds of rookie mistakes' |
Thks Sid...yeah cant possibly hurt to complain to getloaded.com
|
If you have TONU terms in your rate confirmation and the cancellation violates those terms, you won't have much trouble collecting. You didn't mention how close to the pick-up time the cancellation occurred. If it was the day before, you likely won't get many brokers to agree to terms that will penalize them for canceling the day before p/u.
Some of us keep saying, know your business and CYA. But what do we know? |

I said "how close to the pick-up time" not how long after you booked the load.
Did they cancel an hour before you were supposed to pick-up or a day before? Or somewhere in between? |
I agree, put the feedback on ITS. I had one broker that didn't pay for 45 days and they advertised 30. I reported the pay period and noticed there days to pay went up on the load boards. I got a call from them like a month later to haul a load when I posted my truck and the rate agreement said 15 days to pay. I took the load, they paid quick and I updated there performance.
The Onion Connection always pays me quicker then the load board says so I always go in and report them as quicker pay. Most people I think only report on bad news instead of good news also. |
I hauled a drilling fluid pump from houma Louisiana to rock springs Wyoming and they tried canceling after i`d been under the load for a good 80 miles already, I told em thanks for the free $150,000 mud pump and their reply was will pay as agreed :D

I had one to try and cancel the next day after I had it on the truck. I made changes to their contract which they didn't agree. I delivered as agreed and they paid as agreed. I doubt whether we will do business again because I refuse to sign their contract as worded. I was told that were a lot of carriers who had a problem with the wording of their agreement. There were several clauses in their agreement which I didn't agree. There were several changes I made to the agreement. I don't sign any agreement which is totally one sided in favor of the broker. If there is something which I don't agree, then I either make changes or don't sign it. A contract should state what is expected from each party and what should happen should either party fail to keep their part of the agreement. |
Usually if you have called that broker and been dispatched on that load, if they cancel and not offer another load they will usually pay TONU. If they offer another load there is the CATCH-22. Fax them an invoice for TONU and then call them to see if they received it. If they wont pay you, yes report the hello out of them.

It seems to me that even if you did try to cooperate with a broker who wanted to cancel the day after you had the load, you could get in the middle of some liability thing. I mean where is your protection in something like that?
|
The contract is the key to TONU and just about everything else. If there's not specific language in the contract or the rate confirmation, you don't have a leg to stand on, no matter when the load cancels. Unless they try and cancel once you're under the load, haven't run into that one  I'd welcome it though. Anytime you have the opportunity to rewrite a rate confirmation while the load is on your trailer, you should be making money.
While I've never submitted a negative report, I've been told that the loadboard will want copies of the supporting documents. That they won't just post negative information based on hearsay. |
hmmm yeah no worries, i quess i can chaulk it up to another, 'rookie' mistake of mine, I dont always get clarity on this subject(TONU).
Yeah it didnt actually p/u untill the next day (so only out the negotiation time on the phone :-p), but hey, this just seems one more example where the broker has more cards to get us to run cheaper in his arsenal then we have as a carrier. I mean as a broker, these two were obviously fielding other calls on their loads and seeing if they could get another carrier to run it cheaper. Just urrks me they were wasting my time. I certainly wont lose any sleep over losing these loads, even after I negotiated higher it was still a rate most here say you wont pull for. Hmmm imagine that...I run cheap freight, and I am still getting undercut by carriers willing to run cheaper :-p |

Much more opportunities with a reefer. With the exception of a few dry loads you can haul both commodities in a reefer. |
Immm planning to trade it for a flatbed actually.....
Was thinking of the possible upgrades> 1. Refer 2. flatbed 3. car hauler 1.Well refer was out cuz.....brokers are making me look like an idiot now and bending me to their will....wait till they get me in a food warehouse...id be the dead meat. 2. id end up punching one of my car hauler clients when he was bitching at me bout the 1/8 inch scratch in his mercedes :-p ....so no go 3. Hmmmm quess that leaves flatbed.....yeah want a really good step-deck with levelers. |
