How do you bill for reefer fuel?

Is this something that is negotiated separately with the brokers per each load? And if so how is this done?

Thanks

I don't do reefer but I can almost guarantee that you are quoted one price for the load. You can break it up any way you like but this is what you get. I've never had a broker that says I'll give you this much per mile to drive, this much for fuel and this much to tarp. They give one price and that's that, break it up any way you like.

Same way I bill FSC, stop pay, border crossing, expedited, etc. Roll it into the rate.

Rates are normally quoted all inclusive. I don't recall anyone telling me about breaking out the cost of reefer fuel. It is up to the owner operator or carrier to know their costs so they can tell whether a load is profitable for them or not. Those costs should include the cost of reefer fuel, if you pull a refrigerated trailer.

ok thanks. Yes that does make sense to add it in, I guess I'll have to figure out how much fuel it takes per hour to run the reefer and then with the knowing how long the load is I'll be able to figure out the time frame it will be running. Then from there I'll know the operating costs.

Thanks again.

I figure 3 bucks an hour
but don't hold your breath getting paid for it unless you are babysitting a load over the weekend

Yup you have to figure out all your costs!

Most don't. About the only one I can think of is some of the Bosselmans has off-road diesel. They even have the pump where the reefer tank ends up when your putting fuel in the tractor, you don't have to pull up to put in reefer fuel. That's the only one I can think of. Maybe there's some small truck stops that have it but I don't remember seeing it anywhere else. 8) 8)

Well thats sucks you have to pay the on-road price when you can run off-road
