Rev, it doesn't bother me one bit. I'll be long gone before the new tariff goes into effect. To say "United" will make more money iss ill-put when you should be saying "Graebel and all other carriers" will make more money and the contractos less.

BTW- when did you find out about all this? I've know for about 2 and 1/2 months now.

You still never told me where you got your memo from. I'm guessing from Graebel? It seems a bit biased, although it addreses the changes well.

I read in Land Line mag about Settlement against Allied , North American, & Global Van Lines was settled, pending a few details. Any of you guys involved? New I/C agreement, and some compensation coming to some I/C's.

The issue addressed in Landline is a separate issue from the new tariff change. The clas action lawsuit with Sirva has to do with the contract between the drivers and company.

United was the carrier pushing for this. Graebel, and several other carriers, protested it, and eventually settled upon requesting that the new tariff be pushed back to a later date (like late next year). What will hopefully happen with Graebel, is they will completely rewrite the I/C contract, and figure out a way to split apart what this new Tariff lumps together. That is the tentative plan they have come up with, but nobody seems to know how they are going to do it yet, as nothing has been finalized.

Good for you. I have heard rumors about it, but since the changes on May 4th, everything seems to be up in the air.

Biased how?

BanditsCousin 06-09-2007 02:15 PM

I would need substantial proof that Graebel and other carriers protested it, let alone United pushing it. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I'm not convinced.

You may be the Reverend, but your word alone is not gospel

I don't have an allegience to my carrier like people have to their home sports team, or whether Chevy's are greater than Fords. I'm not happy with the changes, so I'm leaving, not whining.

I missed the response to United maing more money- they won't. ALL the carriers will make more money, and less for the contractor.

My dad says th only reason for new tariffs is to make the carriers more money. My dad went on an exclusive tran-border fleet to make the kind of money he did just 10-15 yrs ago. Conisidering his 30 years in the industry v.s. our infancy in the industry I put more faith in his words than most other hhg drivers.

Like I said above, I'm not defending United, but I would like to know who's responsible for the rate decrease. Considering the industry didn't have a stellar year in the past 18 months, its no wonder the corporations need to improve their botom lines, no matter where they take the money from.

Its still better than England 8)

HHG has been god to me, nut to take any more pay cuts isn't in my business plan. I'm runing the busy season and bowing out with pride and dignity.

BINGO! That's it right there, All these corporations are doing this in one form or another. I have a contract with Pulte Homes, thank god I only have one development because they are rebidding just about everything, some contractors have taken up to a 10% cut, if you don't like it hit the bricks. Anywho, what we need is for things to pick back up then corporations won't look to squeeze every penny they can. Unfortunately, what's done is done as far as the cuts.

Sounds like someone is having a bad month?

If you get out of the "business", does this mean you will be leaving the truck message boards?

No, I'm not. Just planning for something, so I don't go down the same path that thousands of other O/O's do, where they wait to lose it all before they realize that they should have planned better.

What does it matter?

I got an interesting memo from United yesterday about the Surface Transportation Board trying to eliminate common rates. I'll post it (copy) it when I get a chance.

There's a lot of finger pointing to be done here. My dad offered to cosign for a car hauling trailer if I jump ship on HHG :)
