I am sitting here reading about Devildice's travels. I'm on Hwy 93 just south of him in Kalispell Mt. Scheduled to start Sage in Missoula on the 10th. Today's my last day on my old job. Having problems paying attention to my job as I keep standing outside. I figure ole Devildice will blow by sometime today :D !!

I grew up in Twin Bridges...southeast of Butte. My older brother used to manage the Safeway stores in Polson and Kalispell.

I was at the customer’s front gate just before they opened at 7am and there was only one truck that beat me to the punch. I fully expected, or at least hoped, that I would be in and out and on the road within a reasonable amount of time. I intended to stop by the Missoula terminal to pick up a few supplies and say hello to everyone and then back on the road as I wanted to shut down just east of Billings in Hardin, MT. Well it took them a LOT longer than I anticipated. By the time they loaded me, I got strapped and tarped, and on the road, it was 4:30pm when I arrived in Missoula. While I was there, I ran into a guy I went to orientation with. We started telling each other our “road stories” and before I knew it, the day was a complete loss.

So I have no choice to run a little harder than I originally planned in order to make up for my lost day. I have just less than 48,000 lbs on deck and this little C-13 CAT motor just does not like pulling that kind of weight over the mountains. Because of that, I only made it to Evansville, WY before shutting it down for the night.

This load is not scheduled to deliver until 9am Tuesday morning in Houston, TX, but I was hoping to get to the customer Monday afternoon. As it going, it looks like it will be Monday evening/night. I hope that as the terrain starts to level out a bit the further south I go that I will be able to make up for lost time.

that was the first time I have ever been up that way and WOW is it beautiful!!!!!!!!! I could see myself sitting on a deck over looking th elake drinking a cold one some day :wink:

Monday is a holiday, unless you know the consignee is open I wouldn't push so hard.

Once you get to Denver, then the road is much flatter. But, like someone else said and you know, Monday is a holiday so you have plenty time to get there on Tuesday. Take it easy going thru DFW and south on Labor Day. I know you can smell home, but be safe.

When I think of fishing in Montana, I know better places than a dock on Flathead Lake to be. Nothing better than a pan fried Brook Trout (fresh from the creek) and a cold beer!!! Upper Blacktail Creek, Upper Ruby River, Upper Gallatin River, Big Fish creek, Little Fish Creek, ....damn...I'm doin it to meself now!!!! :wink:
