Fireman,

After leaving the USN, I moved to central Florida. 22 yrs now on the job. Been driving straight tanker and a 5500k water tanker (old milk trailer refurbed) but we don't need a cdl for an emerg vehicle here since we are exempt. We do have a safety guru who is a state CDL tester. But he is tough and it's not going to be a cakewalk. I will probaly have to go to a cdl school anyway because of the driving / educational requirements.

Thank you. And I agree with you about the fun and hard work. Although the school was great, it just helped me earn my CDL and laid the foundation to which I will start to build on when I head out with my trainer.

Way to go!! I have been following yours and GFIW blogs for some time now. I have been thinking about returning to road after 11 years off, and this website has been very helpful.

I have messaged GFIW and spoke to GFI on the phone. Davis is at the top of my list of companies. I hoping to get an offer here soon to start in Sept or October.

Anyhow, Congrats!!! PM me and we can swap some information.

Thanks danske.....It was GFIW's thread about Davis that got me looking at them. I spoke to a couple of drivers, including GFI himself and after a some "digging" I feel that Davis is the best fit for me. Guess time will tell. Good luck to you as well and maybe I'll see you over there at some point.

I sent you a PM with my email address.

DD...you being in Texas (the republic of... :) ) and Davis being in Montana, what areas do they hire out of? I didn't see much info on their website. Do they have a terminal or drop yard near you?

They hire out of all 48. No terminal or drop yard near me. They have a total of 3 terminals. The main office/terminal is in Missoula, MT and they have one in Ontario, CA and Eldridge, IA. I believe you can get reginonal runs from the Eldridge terminal. For me, I am looking at an average of 4 weeks out.

Congratulations on getting your CDL devildice. Your "blog" "journal" or whatever you wish to call it, is an exellent "insiders" veiw of your experiance at Sage. I am also considering Sage for my training, sometime next year, after a move to NW Pennsylvania. I see they have 4 locations in the SE part of the state. A ways from where i'm moving to, but one location N of Philly, is about a 45 min. ride from my parents home. I could stay there during my training  There is one thing that i'm not sure you mentioned or not...forgive me if you did...but if you don't mind me asking, how much is the tuition for the 4 weeks? Now relax and enjoy a week off before you begin your oreintation and OTR training at Davis...you deserve it. Thanks...Dave
