Ok Ive been blasted here for taking cheap freight.

Yes I dont like to, but seems two reasons miff people.


1. I will eventually go broke or not make enough $. That this really isnt enough $ to operate and evenn tho I have low overhead it will eventually kill me.

2. Rates wont go up.....if these cheap SOB brokers see drivers still taking loads for 1.10-1.15 they will keep posting them.


Really only concerned with the second, but hey I like making more $ and no I dont wana haul cheap just gotta be realistic sometimes, you know three years ago when I left for Asia,there were drivers complaining about cheap freight, n quess what...ITS STILL HERE!...whatever weve been try wont work Im telling ya, I repect G-man n others sticking to their principles, but bottom line principle for me is I need work!
Say tho this is mostly what I want the topic to be about.....you have all heard of one-way-trailers I take it?????? Plan to go out this time hauling their trailers to make some extra money, cuz I am gona put mine in repair for a bit(not just the hole floor, some brake work too, had already amended my INS to haul for them case I couldnt get a trailer. It acually only cost me $400 more a year to haul for them.
Well this is the thing, they dont pay much, but many you CAN load the trailer....they usually pay maybe 30-40 cents for a trailer you can load, but if I get a load for 1.15....theirs my buck n a half per mile(Saw PST do this when I was a rookie driver) whata you guys think?

I understand you need to survive. I won't blast you for hauling cheap freight. You need to do what you feel is best in your situation. All I will say is that unless you charge enough for your work, you will go broke. I have met a few owner operators who pull trailers for companies. They say that they are doing well. The problem you run into with power only is that you won't have a trailer when you drop that one off unless you can get another power only load. If you pull a trailer that you can put some freight into, you should be getting more than $1.50/mile with both. I think you can do better on your rates.

Yeah that was the concern G-man....that once you deliver you dont have a trl lol......but with some extra planning I can pick up a new one, yeah not sure how it will all work out but gonna gove it a shot at least once to make back my extra Ins 400....yeah there two big p/u points seem to be Laredo and SLC.......if I can work between these two I could keep p/u another trailer.
Kinda funny, they once had a one way move, just the trailer that paid 1.75 a mile, dam i cant even get that rate with my trailer loaded :cry: :cry:

call around to container companies for power only moves to get you back

There are some power only carriers. They do broker some of their trailers out. You may want to post your truck for power only as far ahead of time as possible to try and get a return trailer. Sometimes you won't get a van. I have seen some odd trailers being pulled by some of those contractors.

Why don't you just lease on with some "big"?
You'll be getting the same $1.15-1.20, and not hauling "cheap", cause those "big" know what they doing!
You'll also will lower your costs! :roll:

Cuz they didnt want me lol....now its kinda pointless to go back, besides I am happier without them for now :P
Hmmm yeah quess technically I wouldnt be hauling for less then...cuz they tool the load for 2.oo per mile n paying me 90c plus feul surcharge

Fixing your trailer shouldn't take more than a few days at the most. Skip the PO. Get it done this week and you may even miss the blitz.
