Please Help if you can.

Hello,I am looking for an owner operator who will give me a second chance.I have been a company driver for 2.5 years.
I lost my job On 02/02/07. after hitting Train over pass.not bad but bad enough.and it looks like my dac report is all messed up.

I had an accident that was not my fault and no ticket issued.with schneider.(got fired for application falsification).07/05.
I hit the overpass with sitton (got fired)also got a ticket for a U-turn in Fl.11/06,got fired from Barr nunn for not calling my dispatcher daily which
was company policy.
So now i can't get hired anywhere.
And i am now looking for work at mcdonald's etc.
I was living on my savings since feb.and now i am homeless.

I enjoyed trucking most of the time.and miss it as well as the pay.
I would be willing to work for an owner op even for a .28 cpm just to get my foot back into trucking.
Thanks for for the long post, just wanted to get everything out up front. Oh, I live in Georgia.

henboy1 05-26-2007 07:44 PM

This sounds like a joke or you are just too honest

You live in GA just like me and you mean you cannot go to the rail yard like csx, morgan southern, tcw, conglobal and find an O/O ad on the wall?Trust me now one will hire you with that on your DAC.Let them find out for themselves. The mention of Mcdonalds make me think it is a joke.

I think it's Gman having a little fun. He has 1/2 a glass of wine and he totally loses it.

Kidding.

driver1235 05-27-2007 01:43 PM

oh , ok i will try that i never thought of it (.rail yards).
thanks for the advice.and no this is not a joke.

floored 05-27-2007 03:56 PM

You could look on craigslist, I always see job postings on there by small companies and O/O's.

If you came to me wanting a job and told me what you said here I would not hire you, I wouldn't even want you to test drive my truck. I'm trying to be nice here, but reality is you have proven to be a unsafe & un-responsible driver by your past actions, and you should really look into work in another profession. It sounds like you have already had your 2nd chance a couple of times over.. Just my opnion, take it or leave it.

Truckdobe 05-28-2007 12:45 PM

The only one that gets me is the overpass deal, that might need further explanation....

I don't have trucks anymore, so this is a moot point...

Do you live in North GA??

Truckdobe 05-28-2007 12:48 PM

Since I don't check in regularly, there are lots of O/Os and small cos in N GA that might give you a chance.

Dahlonega Transport and Crane Transportation come to mind...

driver1235 05-28-2007 01:41 PM

hey there Truckdobe
I live in macon.
Well i just dropped off a load and picked up another in hickory,nc and was on my way, they loaded me with wrong productso i had to turn back around .there where 3 train overpasses
if you turn left you'll make them.if you turn right you wont i turned right.i was talking to my dispatcher at the time and missed the warning sign.
I just peeled up the first foot of the trailer and did not get stuck but ,the part of the trailer that was sticking up was high enough to get caught on the overpass i could pass under and peeled it back about 5 feet.
I damaged six chairs at $250 a piece.that's the whole ugly story.
Thanks for info.

Well, I gotta admit I like your honesty. We don't run anywhere near Georgia so I'm of no help to you but.....maybe you can get a shot shunting. Or local stright truck work. Maybe even with a O/O that's got a driver out sick, or a driver that no shows often and you can be on call (trust me this happens, an o/o can get really desperate).

We will sometimes check out a new driver by putting him in a truck and running together on a known route with another truck. If that goes OK then there's a comfort level of sorts.

driver1235 05-30-2007 02:15 PM

Hey thanks Rank, yeah i'm still looking.

driver1235 06-01-2007 12:49 PM

No go out there and protect Your CDL and do not change jobs for atleast 1 year and preferably more

Truckdobe 06-02-2007 07:05 AM

Dahlonega used to be a pretty good co.; a little fast 'n loose, but a decent place. I haven't had any contact with them in 10 years, but knew they were still around...

Do they still have a yard in Macon? We used to feel like we lived at the old Huddle House down there. :D

Be careful, maybe you can use them as a stepping stone to something better.

Tom Rainey (owner) is a great guy, but started delegating a lot to the idiots in his office when it got too big for him to really keep his eyes on. I guess that's what happens to a lot of good small companies... they grow. :?

driver1235 06-03-2007 06:04 PM

Thanks Mike3fan i plan on it. :D

driver1235 06-03-2007 06:12 PM

to Truckdobe,Well i'm not sure about the yard He didn't mention it; that would be great if they did though.and yeah i figure i'll stay a year or so to get back into the swing, but if i like it i'll stay for a while, never worked for a small co. before. :)

What do you mean a little fast and loose? :?
Talking to the recriuter i can tell they're a little on the laid back side.

pepe4158 06-03-2007 06:20 PM

ummm dont get it....looked on their web-site...ummm looks like a job referal service?....no?

Truckdobe 06-06-2007 12:55 PM

'Back in the day', it was a place that just wanted the job done and the logs right (at least mostly); no questions asked, just do the job...

They really started changing around '95-'96 when they started hiring less experienced drivers and added a trainer; before that it was all older local hands that had been driving forever. They may be a little more strict now that they have so many more trucks... don't know.

The Macon yard wasn't manned, it was just a drop yard and drivers' lounge (just barely). I can't think of the name of the road, seems like it was the road that went to the Byron exit (where the Huddle House is on 75), only about 2-3 miles from the egg carton place (used to be PCA) at the industrial park. The yard was called Rams Bottom at the time.

yellowcabbill 06-07-2007 04:03 AM

Hay driver 1235- if this ever happens again go to your local cab company. Cab companies are always looking for drivers and pay attention only to moving violations. In the right town you can make OK money. No more talk on the cell when drivin near the railroad over crossings, OK? Bill

driver1235 06-15-2007 03:28 PM

You Bet Bill.
Update DTI uses super 10 transmission, which i tried not good ,but found another company in FT>Wayne,IN that has hired me and i should be ok from there.
Will keep in touch-I have been on this site for a long time but never posted.
Once again thank you all for the helpful suggestions And comments.

-John

furbis 06-16-2007 12:12 PM

so you quit DTI because of the transmision in the truck? why you can't shift a super 10 or you don't like a super 10?

driver1235 06-16-2007 04:26 PM

Well I thought it would be like a straight 10 but it sure was'nt i tried but could'nt get the hang of it i was only trained on a straight 10 so he said he would try to find a straight 10 for me and that's how we left it. but as a fleet they use super 10.
In the meantime i have been working with another company who was also
willing to hire me.and i leave monday to FT.Wayne <IN.(They have straight 10 transmissions I asked ) i had no idea there was such a thing as a super 10. So i did'nt really quite i never went out on a load or orientation.

This other company is Ficher&Crown out of IN.They pay alot more and they are aware of my situation. So i lucked out.

jiptwoo 06-16-2007 06:01 PM

What kind of driver are you, a super ten and you run, you have got to be kidding. How do you think drivers learn to drive different transmissions, by running away. Hey nevermind, enjoy your ability to know and drive one tranny only.

mike3fan 06-16-2007 06:26 PM

I had a super ten in one company truck I drove, and in my opinion it was a waste of engineering and time,I hated it.

GMAN 06-16-2007 06:53 PM

Are you serious? You quit a company because they had super 10 transmissions? I have heard a lot of reasons why drivers quit companies, but I don't recall anyone mention quiting because of a super 10.

allan5oh 06-16-2007 07:32 PM

whats so wrong about a stupid 10?

jiptwoo 06-16-2007 08:18 PM

Just a little versatility is all you need to like a super ten-- put you jake on 2nd or third stage and you will catch the gears 1,2,3, all it takes is imagination.

driver1235 06-18-2007 02:03 PM

Yeah yeah i know,but by this time i've been out of a truck for about 4 months...and i'm a little nervous,so i need something i'm familar with.

Maybe in the future i'll try it again.

Wow that gernerated a few comments
Thanks again.
John :)

Marmon man 07-18-2007 01:53 AM

wow.....well that explains that....damn super 10's.............

CJSamples 07-18-2007 09:12 AM

So please forgive the stupid question. What is so special about a super 10? Heard of them before, but never drove a truck with one.

Chris O/O in Georgia

jamesinge 07-20-2007 02:53 AM

A Super Ten you split every gear and the hi low range selector is automatic.
