DOT or State inspection...Not both
I just went to the garage to get my truck inspected and was told I do not need to get a DOT inspection since NH has a state inspection which is the same criteria as the DOT inspection. I was showed the DOT regulations and they are correct. Any state that has a state inspection does not need a DOT inspection. They will do both if I want but it's twice the money and redundant. I was told I would basically be paying for a second sticker with no inspection.
Anybody actually do this? |
I have a local truck stop who has a DOT certified mechanic who does my inspections. It is a standard DOT inspection.

I think that reg includes a list of the states who's inspection satisfies the DOT requirement. CA requires quarterly inspections but as the owner you're allowed to do them yourself. We still have to get a DOT annual but it counts as one of our quarterlies.

Texas has the same system as NH Steve. The truck I just bought had a Texas State inspection sticker on the winshield, when I picked it up. Stopped at the local DOT shop here, and they told me that the Texas CMV inspection is the sdame as a Fed DOT inspection. Have been thropugh several states the last 2 month's, and 2 inspections...no problems with just the Texas sticker.

I have N.Y. plate and I got DOT insp. in georgia! It works!

You can get an inspection anywhere that they are DOT certified. Most TA's and other truck stops can inspect your equipment.
