Quite a bit different then what everyone is saying. I'll tell you this, even as a Canadian I get x-ray scanned at Pembina, ND border more then half the time. I bet 70% of the trucks go through one of the scanners(yes they have TWO). |

Since the mid-1990s, the rate of Mexican trucks taken off the road for safety violations has dropped 64 percent, from 59 percent to 21 percent (comparable to the U.S. average). I didn't realize Mexican trucking companies had access prior to 1982. |
i'm more concerned with the drivers than the trucks.

What are you guys talking about!?!?!? None of this concerns you or me, we aren't participating! The only way we are affected is that the Mexicans are going to start running our freight! Otherwise, American truckers aren't even involved.
Let's just say it, there are too many soccer Moms concerned about safety that we American truckers don't have to worry about the DOT allowing unsafe trucks to operate. Admit it, that isn't our concern. There is no reciprocity as far as the work goes, them coming up here and us going down there. That isn't happening! They'll be coming up here. We won't get the border runs. Those who have been doing border runs will start looking for other freight. Freight prices will fall. Period. Get it, freight prices fall. That's good for consumers! These are just the facts, let's get them straight. I'm not even passing judgement on the facts, I'm not griping, I'm not whining...all I'm saying is let's call it what it is, more competition for domestic freight. That's our concern, not whether or not Immigration can control the borders, whether or not our roads will be safe... Immigration and the DOT will do their jobs and if they don't they won't need us to put up a fuss, there are plenty of 'consumers' who'll do that for us. |

I see a freight world where a Mexican trucking company delivers a load of textile products to an Atlanta area distribution center, reloads in the same center with a load of plastic products and delivers that to a distribution center in Toronto, where that same Mexican company truck is re-loaded with raw automotive parts, to be delivered to a distribution center in Kansas City, where said truck is re-loaded with finished automotive components, that is delivered to a Mexican auto production plant. At the three locations, outside of Mexico, the crew that does loading/unloading are "guest workers" whom can communicate fluently with the Truckdriver, and work swiftly to get that driver in & out, so he is not delayed, and is able to make thousands of pesoes per week..so as to support his family.

The load going from US to Canada is something he cannot touch, just like I cannot touch a US load to mexico.
