Parking restrictions in "very rural KS". Crazy! No_worries I agree the ideal situation would be to find a landowner who would let me park on there property. HB? Is that Huntington Beach? Parking is just one of the issues I'm looking at besides insurance, equipment, brokers, stress and the schedule (time away from home). I'm a local driver and enjoy my job but I can feel wanting a change down the road. I'm trying to figure out if I could operate solely in So. Cal. and make a living. I believe I could but it will be a matter of finding the right people. Thanks for the responses.

Sorry, yeah, that would be Huntington Beach. I'd spelled it out earlier but must have erased it. Just running SoCal may be a little tough but if you're willing to go up into Central and Northern CA you can do a bit better. I know some guys that do very well just running CA but they've been at it quite awhile and haul exclusively for one or two shippers. From what I've seen, you could do alright ratewise but because you're running in a limited area you're not doing alot of miles with typical loading and unloading. You can make a living, it just depends on how good of a living you're wanting to make.

Just like anything else, i guess, it takes time to establish good working relationships with shippers like the guys you know who run in CA. I was getting a light weight on my truck yesterday at a moving company's scale and noticed what appeared to be an o/o parking his truck in one of there spaces. He was obviously parking for a while because he left with a lot of his belongings. Wish I had taken the time to try and talk to him. Got to get better at that.

You can park in National City off the Bay Marina/Mile of Cars exit. Either behind the Dennys or over toward the port. It'll be you and about 900 other trucks, though! :D

I'd make sure I had one helluva a security setup before I parked there

I park at a flatbed company about 3 miles from the house, $65.00 a month including a plug in during the winter.

Not bad for a lot with a guard and completely fenced in and secure.
