im thinking about buying this truck as my first truck then trying to lease on with an authority in my area transporting containers will this work good for me? please help! lol

what are some important things to ask when buying a truck..if im carrying heavy loads im obviously going to burn more fuel right..what is a good mpg range for a truck like this...anything else i should ask them or check..because this looks like a to good deal for that truck , something might be wrong with it?

I am not a negative person, however

A single axle for containers. I have never seen one, might want to make sure you have someone who will work a truck like that. If you do manage to find work for it, I can't imagine much work for a light GVW truck in containers.

Second, that motor is just too small to be on the road. You are not only going to be slow, but REALLY slow. Someone will correct me if I am wrong but I believe the M11 is basically the same motor in a dodge pick-up. With only 280 hp and god only knows how little torque, a 3.07 rear and a 9 speed you are gonna be lucky if that truck can even get out of it's own way at 50,000 much less 80 or more.

I myself would keep searching.

m11's are actually pretty good, but you need the higher hp versions.

You really need some experience using a truck in that situation before you go and buy one. Take a job driving a truck pulling containers in your area so you can see what it is like. You may find that you want to get a truck just like the company truck you drive, or you may find you want something longer or shorter or more powerful.

If you don't want to do that you could at least go and watch some of these trucks in action wherever it is that you want to find work. Follow a few and see if they really slow down on hills. When you find one that seems to serve it's owner well ask a few questions about it. People like to brag about their truck.

A single screw for container work is going to be useless, going to need more horses and a twin screw. :wink:

this is a twin screw in the same model , this one has 370 hp still a good deal.. it still looks like to good a deal ..what do you guys think?how many miles per gallon can i exspect roughly ? i will not only pull containers i just quit that gig after a month because i was making 33% commission and still bringing home 600 ..i am sick of making other people money ..

How much money do you think you are going to make buy haveing your own truck???? These trucking companys are not making all that much by the time everything is took out. Just something to think about. :P

Probably around 8 mpg I would guess. The m11's are about the best for fuel mileage.

That seems like a lot better truck.

The 40k rear will be helpful dragging cans around.

That 10 speed will be much better than the 9 but as far as mileage, it is gonna depend on your rear end ratio and your left foot.

If you are doing the "numbers" for your new company figure on around 5mpg, anything better would be money in your pocket.

Just my thoughts, I could be wrong.

Unless you plan on running local, you will want to get a truck with a sleeper. I would expect the truck to get round 6.5-7 mpg, providing you keep your foot out of it. The M11's do tend to get better fuel economy than the bigger engines. I have heard of them getting close to 8 mpg, but have never checked it for myself. Your personal driving habits and gear ratio's will effect your fuel mileage more than anything.
