Rebuild or Keep Going???

I have never had a Cummings Engine before, and after owning one for a couple of months now, I have noticed it leaks oil around the gaskets, and has a couple of water leaks around gaskets as well. (You can read about this in my previous post)

I found out the guy that I bought it from sprayed either on the engine to clean it up, and boy did it ever. I thought it was a super clean engine until I ran it for a couple of weeks and started seeing the oil seepage around the gaskets.

My question is this. I have heard that some of these Cummings engine leak after you rebuild them, so here is my question:

Would you consider a rebuild just because it was using oil 1/2 to 1 gallon per week.

And just started a water leak, probably less than 1/2 gallon per week.

Or run her until it lays down on you?

if you have the money to get it done do it now and then you wont have to worry about being towed in if it fails on ya

No reason you can't just get the leaks fixed. Take it in for an estimate.

It could cost more to repair if you wait until it dies on you. Not only in additional repairs, but a tow bill. I would take it to Cummins and have them take a look at it. You may be able to repair it without a complete overhaul.
