pantherii and cargo van expediting
I was curious; If anyone had experience doing this with pantherii.
I sat down and ran the cost and it seems I dont think I could pull it off unless i made at least 2500 miles a week or more. I think the going rate was .77/mile, but I had to figure my cost of living atm, plus payments and future payments so at end of the vans life, buy another one. Any suggestions? Robert |
Hi Robert! Didn't hear from you for a while. How you been doing?
And what are you talking about? |
Hey man, long time no chat. :)
lol. Im use to couriering; use to do it before I got into trucking. I want to do something like a courier in a regular vehicle. Just wondering if anyone has experience doing this, and with pantherii or any other company. Ive been otr/regional for about 2 yrs now. Just wanted to see what other options I have. I could probably get a loan for a van, but Id have to make decent cpm and steady miles for all that to work. Just seeing if anyone has info on this; If it's worth it; etc. |
for 77 cents a mile? hell no!
fyi expediters usually bring top dollar, you can do much better. |
Triple that $0.77 per mile pay rate and you might be talking.
If your fuel costs you $0.50 per mile than at $0.77 you won't have much left. 8) |
True. This is a cargo van though. If it's a diesel, then Id be lookin around .15/cpm fuel cost.
ugh, I dont know. I really need to do some digging. Maybe straight truck would be better. |
And what's wrong with T/T?
|
how about a stretched out tractor with a box on it? or a dually and a trailer, a cargo van really limits what you can haul.
with any 3 of those options 77 cents is still far too low |

Panther2 is the SWIFT of expediting - I'm talking about it's size because since buying Conway's expedite division, P2 is currently the biggest expedite carrier. Generally speaking, many cargo van drivers are either semi-retired or trying to make money driving without the hassles associated with driving a truck that requires a CDL. That being said, as far as I know, P2 has a safety department that limits the miles per day that even cargo vans can run, similar to the HOS regs. While it may happen on rare occasion, I wouldn't plan on 2500 miles per week, I'd say that 1000 - 1200 loaded miles per week with 50% dead head is closer to reality. Don't forget that, compared to a T/T, driving a cargo van may have some advantages, but when it comes to layovers, they are a whole helluva lot less comfortable. |
Oops - sorry. I posted to the wrong thread. Check the thread on Straight trucks.
