Turbo blanket, header wrap and heat shielding?

Has anyone ever dealt with turbo blankets, header wrap, or mat heat barrier / insulation? I have a 1980 GMC Astro cab over and the darn detroit engine is smoking my feet after a long drive. I have read about turbo blankets burning out the turbo because no heat ever escapes and the same for header wrap cracking headers and somehow making them rust from the inside out. When I looked for insulating mats, I found a lot of stuff, but it's near to impossible to determine what is good and what is junk. Most of it appears to be for aftermarket audio systems??
I'd appreciate any thoughts of comments.
Thank you!
