can you knock out a frame insert? my dad has one in his pete and its starting to case more of a hasssle then anything else. hard to scale it out. anyway of knocking the insert out?

my dad's truck is dubble framed from the 5th back. can we take that out or is it welded into the frame? someone told me it was bolted in.

It's more than likely bolted into the outer frame by the bolts that hold the suspension to the frame and the 5th to the frame.

What problems is the insert causing? Cracking the outer frame?

Once the inserts are out you need spacers the same thickness as the inserts so that all the parts stay at the same width.

Since it's a no no to weld on the frame they're bolted in, stipulation " if done correctly ".

If its from the 5 th wheel back it's barely gonna be 200 pounds, way more trouble than any weight savings would be worth. Probably there for a reason too.

its from the factory so i dont know how they do it. i'd think it was more then 200lbs. wow. its a pain to get the axle weight right on that thing. the truck with half tanks of fuel weighs 21300. not sure if thats heavy for a 379

2 pieces of frame rail 3' long, maybe even less than 100 lbs each.

Weight about average for his truck, mines 22,600, always good axles with the trailer spread.
