So, the title basically says it. I live in NY and as I'm sure most of you know we really got slammed by Sandy. Only the second time in history NYC's public transportation was shut down. I was wondering if anyone on here knew of any good brokers to sign on for some FEMA work to help out. I understand that to get my company approved by FEMA is an incredibly long process, or at least so I've heard, and thats not what I'm trying to do. Also, how do those kind of loads pay? I would guess that they pay by the mile or flat rate but I could be long. I've known a couple company drivers who have worked for FEMA and according to them they did a lot of sitting around. Do they pay well at all?

All depends on what kind of trailer and what is on it. I've got a RGN with a generator on it at 1500.00/day + any move charges. Most loads are going to be at least double brokered,some 3-4 times.

It's been years since I've hauled a FEMA load as a company driver, but when I did, they were all CH Robinson loads. In fact, everyone I spoke to went through CHR,

Pretty much anyone can set up with FEMA. Long,drawn out process.

I've been getting calls all week for power only to move generators, all different rates, becuase like Chris1 said they are brokered to death, my answer to them is always the same, "here is what I need to get" usually the conversation is over then.

i was getting calls left and right.. but i was stuck in nj. total quality seemed to have a good deal. they needed power only out of farmingdale. they told me $500 a day, 500 mile radius. 3 week commitment no matter what. even if you didnt work. told them the rate was way too low. got them up to 850 a day. but by the time they called back to ok it i was with one of my customers doing fema on the island. (thursday)

How did you fare in the storm? I know you're on the island, just don't remember where.

fine actually. fought that SOB all day sunday going to OH. all day monday driving back to NJ where i was stuck for 3 days. monday night it got to the point the rain wind was just stupid and i knew the place i was delivering to would be closed. shut it down at the 273? rest area going east on 80 in nj. slept like a baby lol. the wind was unreal though. how about you? i know you are upstate but i also know you run across 80.
