You are exactly right. You will end up paying them one way or the other and will still pay them at the pump if they decide to cut fuel tax then impose windfall tax on oil companies. The more the government takes from those companies the more they are going to charge us to recoup that profit margin, who knows, cutting the gas tax may end up costing you more in the end. The oild companies are going to meet their margins like they always do and you know damn well anything the government loses from cutting gas tax they will take back from you in another area. Its all political trckery crap, its damn near close to trying to buy votes. If they really wanted to do something to help and had our best interests in mind they would have worked on solutions long before diesel and gas started hitting $4 a gallon. I kind of see it as a spit in the face that things have been allowed to get in such piss poor conditions and now they want to throw .20 cents our way for a couple of months. And as said above in another post, it will probably just be a gateway to pushing harder for tolls that will cost you more than the fuel tax in the first place. They can keep their fuel tax for all i care, do something thats really going to make a difference and stop trying to buy the votes with a token gesture.
