no work history problem
 

My wife is confined to a wheelchair, and her age is slowly catching up with her. Her health is getting worse, which means that I have to stay home with her. This also means that I cannot get a job -- no work history to speak of for the past 8+ years. I have no income, no job history, and no way out. I will stay with my wife as long as she lives and breathes, but what am I to do when she draws her last breath? I want to work. I want to be an OTR truck driver, and I never want to come home (especially when she is gone, it will be too painful).
Which leads me to my big question: How do I get hired/pre-hired by any company to be an OTR truck driver, get my CDL, and actually provide for myself when my wife passes away -- with no way to get any work history? I keep house and take care of her special care. I have helped raise our daughter, who just turned 18 and is about to graduate high school. That is likely not enough. I am open to suggestions.

I am very sorry to hear about your wife. My wife is also disabled and been ill for a number of years. It can be taxing on the entire family. Carriers are required by law to collect a 10 year work history. Some may have been in school or not worked for various reasons. You will need to account for the time, but especially the last 3 years. We are required to at least check the last 3 years. If you have not worked then you may need some supporting documents which can prove what you have been doing for that time. With your wife being ill, it may be necessary to have a letter from her physician, an attorney, minister, etc., who may be familiar with your situation.

You need 25 posts before the system will allow you to pm. I didn't realize that you didn't have that many posts. Once you have the minimum number of posts you can pm anyone.

would think so to logbook and taking into account what he been through employers would be helpfull

He will still need to document what he was doing the last several years. Any income that you have received could be used to support what you have been doing. You might check with some of the training carriers to see what they might accept once you start your quest. Now would be the time to start preparing and put a plan together so that you know exactly how you will transition from being a caregiver to a truck driver.
