Driving tips

You're biggest risk of having a bad accident is within the first two years of you passing your driving test.

1. Don't Back Up
2. Learn Your Car
3. Go Right
4. See And Be Seen
5. Anticipate

You do realize this is a trucking place not a car place right?

Backing is part of our daily job.

Backing is part of our daily job.

Many moons ago I met the Director of Driver Training at Dow Chemical. He had been hired away from UPS to set up Dow's truck driving training program.

He had one simply rule.

"Don't back. Don't back. Do not back."

His main point was, that it is safer to back trucks while using a "land guide" than to just back up blindly.

Do explain Stan, I can't make heads or tails of that.

I do know that UPS does not want their delivery drivers backing whenever possible.

1. Don't Back Up

Just park it in the fuel island... Pilot and Loves are constantly proving you do not need a parking space.

And, find out why the rear axle won't hold 34,000 pounds...

And, do this 3 times for a left turn.... You need the practice avoiding street lights, traffic lights, and street signs....

Which is virtually IMP0SSIBLE with some 4-wheelers on the road...

And, with all your anticipating, also be prepared for the guy that does something you do not anticipate... They always find a new way to screw you up. Especially the ones that can't see a 53' box on the highway...
