Trucker Tied Up, His Rig Stolen

A 40-year-old Central Florida trucker was kidnapped and tied up early Tuesday and his trailer full of Publix deli meats hijacked on U.S. 301 in Baldwin, Jacksonville police said.

The Lady Lake truck driver told police he had just parked his truck at 2:30 a.m. behind the McDonald’s off Interstate 10 when he saw a gray Ford Mustang nearby, according to the incident report. After it drove off, a man and woman walked up and asked for a ride. The trucker refused and walked away as the couple left.

The Mustang drove up seconds later and one of the three inside pulled a gun out and tugged him to his truck while demanding money and keys.

The Mustang’s two passengers tied his hands and feet and threw him in the truck before driving off, one holding the gun to his head. They also covered his head with a T-shirt so he couldn’t see.

A few minutes later, he was put into an empty building on County Road 228 in Macclenny. He said he was able to untie his feet and get to a nearby Walmart for help about 3:30 a.m. with his hands still tied behind his back, according to the police report.

The Florida Times-Union is not identifying the victim because no arrests have yet been made.

Guess they were really hungry for sandwiches.

Sounds "fishy" to me!

I don't know about the "fishy" part. Meat products have always been a high target commodity. I've had guys stop by here with steaks for sale, out of the trunk of a car, packed in dry ice. I've never bought any of it (probably hot enough to cook itself), but I'm sure there are others in the neighborhood that do buy it. If it didn't have a profit margin, they would not deal with meat.

The sheriff's office has arrested a number of people that "deal in stolen property", but it doesn't list just what that property actually is, so there are other things that are involved as well. Usually, it's steaks and roasts but sandwich meat can be sold as well.

Interesting that he was able to get his feet free, but not his hands.....

Hence.....It smells "fishy". Why could he work his feet free and get out of a building.....but not his hands.

Fishy.

The story as a whole sounds a little fishy. Mustang drives away, 2 people walk up after talking with the Mustang and ask for a ride. Driver says no Mustang shows back up and hi-jacks him. What happened to those 2 people who had just walked away from him?

My question is "Why was this guy outside of the truck at 0230?" If I see a suspiscious vehicle pull up, that machine is staying locked and the lights will stay off.
