Question about team pay
 
I have a question about team pay. If they say .44 cents per mile split, what does that mean. If I drive 400 miles and my husband drives 450 miles, then would our paycheck reflect 850 miles X .44 cents?

Just wondering what they mean by 'split' :confused:

The miles and pay are split equally between the two drivers.

425 miles each driver x .22 per mile for each driver

Nope it is 850 miles at .22 cpm. How team pay works is this take what your getting paid as a team divide it in half now take all the miles your truck ran and multuiplyit by the half of the team pay then figure out your deductions from that. Sorry mgfg ran team in teh 90's and they ahve always figured out team pay like this they pay your for all the miles that truck rools at half the rate the truck gets.

No, actually mgfg is confusing the issue. Whereas it is assumed that the total miles for the truck would be split between the two drivers, (as far as workload goes,) and the total CPM paid to the truck is split between the drivers, he says each driver only gets HALF the cpm for his OWN miles. That is not true.

If you want to split the miles, then each driver would get FULL CPM for his own miles. Or you could split the CPM and each driver gets half the CPM .... but for ALL miles the truck operates. Ironeagle is correct.

As for the O.P's question, the answer is yes (sort of.) As a team, you don't get ONE paycheck... you get two separate ones. But, your checks "combined" will equal 850 miles at 44 cpm. But, I sure hope y'all are getting more than 850 total miles per week!

Ok I think I got it.

850 x .44 = 374/2 = $187 each

or, 850 x .22 = $187

But you can't split the miles AND the pay, then it would be 425 x .22 = $93.50. If that were the case then what would be the point to run as a team if I could make more driving solo.

A "Solo" driver can knock down...maybe 3200 miles in a good week. A "solo" driver that drops and hooks mainly can probably knock down 3800 or so.

A good team, that the company keeps rolling is going to knock down 6300 + miles. Teams seldom do the 600 mile loads (good teams anyway). It is a waste of resources and good managers know it. The exception to the 600 mile rule would be an operation like UPS and Fed-ex.

Ok, thanks for that. However my question was not about how many miles we will be running. I just put those numbers up as an example. My question is how are they going to pay us. If they tell me they pay .44 split, then how should I figure that. The 850 miles I used was for one day, but let's just say we ran 6300 miles in one week. So do we get paid 6300x.44/2?

yes. 6300 miles X 44 cpm.... "split" between the two of you. Or.... if you prefer, EACH of you will get paid 6300 miles X 22 cpm.
