Thanks everyone....

Hopefully, this is the correct place to post this. First let me say, I am not a truck driver but a local cop in a port town in Virginia. I hope to retire(from this job at age 45) in about three years, obtain my CDL and start driving for a living.

I have been researching your occupation for months, stumbled across this website and have found some great information here. I want to say thank-you for that. I won't post often (for the time being anyways) but you might see an occasional post. I respect what you folks do and hope to be part of it in the near future. My plan is to attend a local CC for an eight week CDL program to get my license and then kinda go from there.

Again, I just wanted to say thanks for all the great info I am getting from this forum. Please don't get upset if I post a question about stuff (mainly about abbreviations) that I am not familiar with. Any advice is welcomed........

Thanks again for a great forum,
Snoopy

Welcome Snoopy....

"I didn't do it, that chalks not mine, and ...." (Roadhog runs!)

I don't know Gman... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...nd10/shrug.gif
...the transition is usually pretty hard for retired LEO's, when they find out how seedy the Trucking World is.
For one thing.... there's crack everywhere.

Wait til he bumps dock at his first Grocery Warehouse...
and finds out that's where all the criminals have been hiding out all these years.

He might change his mind when he sees the other side of things, Hog. But then, he may just be working undercover. After all his handle is....... "Snoopy."

If you're done with idiots, you may want to seriously reconsider entering the OTR world

Welcome to the boards!

You obviously have your reasons for wanting to go into trucking. One piece of advice I'd offer is to go spend a little time at 1 or 2 local truck stops. Talk to some drivers there, not just here on the boards. While you're there, pick up some of the recruiting magazines. That'll give you an idea of what companies are offering and what they're looking for.

Good luck to you.

You might ALSO think twice about consorting with the IDIOTS (including myself) here on CAD!

Isn't there a LAW against giving a DOG name to a poor little CAT???

Welcome! Jump in anytime!

Sorry Golf, somehow I missed your post. Puppycat and Snoopycat ran the roost.....the poor beagle dog didn't have a chance around them (and the cats were declawed).

Thanks Luzon for the advice, I have talked to a few plus a couple friends that drive. I still have 3 years to go (if I can make it) till retirement #1......lot's of things can change between now and then (hopefully a new President) but I doubt I will change my feeling for wanting to drive. I hope age 45 is not going to hurt the new guy getting into this business. The way this country is going (and no offense meant....cause I don't have one) a flipping degree will be required in order to get a driving job.
