IMO, the smarter route would be to skip all the 2 lane highways and anything that resembles NYC, and stick to the interstate. The 40 miles you save by taking the state highways will be eaten up quickly once you get near NYC.
I-83 north to I-81 north to I-88 east to hwy 20, into Albany. 343 miles. No tolls. |

That's the secondary route mapquest gave me, but I wasn't sure it was a good truck route. Haven't been to Albany before. Rev, thanks for taking the time to reply. Makes me feel much more confident about this run. Jeff |
You're welcome for my routing as well...

Thank you as well...

Just FYI, I-88 is and has been a mess for years.
Temporary crossover lanes, single lanes with jersey barriers, horrible road surface in places. |
do yourself a favor and follow Rev's advice. Secondary roads in NY and PA will eat up more time than they are worth.
|
Why not go 81 to 84 to 87 instead of 81 to 88?
|
87s-287-78w-222-30?
|
I've taken that route both ways and it works and is shorter but I think that your much better off going north and using the route rev gave you. imho unless the company that you work for routes you into NJ i'd stay out of there and the traffic on 78.

Good route but backwards. Rev.'s route is good too. Which one I would take depends on time of day and weather. I am taking my 10hr break on 88 right now. Travel this way fairly often and live in eastern PA. Stay off 287 during rush hours. |
