Where to park ?

Have been a local driver for my whole career 35 years. I used to do a little otr with my dad a longggg time ago lol, My question is this, I just got hired on with a otr carrier (part time by choice) and was wondering is parking on the side of the interstate or public street a real hastle with police ? Im not crazy about stopping at truck stops except for fuel, any info or advice?

some places its ok, i learned in my short carreer that it depends... on and off ramps are usually ok but some resudential places usually dont allow it.... just my .02

On and off ramps in VA & IN will definitely land you with a very nice fine. Parking in most industrial areas is normally ok. Not always, but most of the time.

It seems that more and more states are enforcing the no parking on the ramps. I get to see more and more of the vacant lots that we used to park in being fenced in, and we're not allowed in them anymore.

Try to plan your trip so that you get to park early in the afternoon, and if there is any doubt that you will be able to park there... DON'T. I'm told that along with IN and VA, AR is enforcing the no parking. OH is likely to give you a "wake-up call" and charge you for the service as well. If you're loaded heavy, I'd suggest staying away from private property. Damage to a lot could get charged to you.

I just love the stores who enforce a 'no truck parking' policy. They not realize that its a truck that keeps their store running? Those stores i refrain from shopping at. Such as Wal-Marts. i might stop, but i'll never buy anything. If i can find a Super Target, ill stop there....that is if the nearest T.S. or terminal isnt available.

see....i will actally PLAN out my route, and if i'm on an 800 mile run, i'll see where i'll be at within my last hour, and find something within 30 miles or so. If it happens to me a truck stop....so be it. If there isnt a truck stop within 100 miles....but a Wal-Mart....then thats where i stop.

I have many strategic places marked on my road atlas for parking....

I have been collecting them for 4 years now...i write 'spots' down on a pad as i travel about

the country.

For example: there are many abandoned areas in some cities that have empty streets

to park on....zero traffic in other words...and zero people.

Good luck

I've got a gps, might start putting in places that I go. Sounds like a good idea to mark the places as you travel about the usa. thanks
