Shower $

How much does it cost to take a shower at a truck stop?

Windwalker 07-13-2009 08:47 AM

About $10, if you don't fuel there.

k9ulan 07-13-2009 08:55 AM

thanks..

If you have the reward program cards that most truck stop chains offer you almost never have to pay for a shower. Although some have increased the amount of fuel you must purchase to get a free shower. It used to be 50 gallons but some now require 75.

I THINK Petros are 75 now. Not sure.... but at least ONE of the big names are. But, don't trust what I say.... it's been a LONG time since I took a shower!

(On the ROAD, I mean!) ;)

P.S. The Boise Stage Stop has been 75 gallons as long as I can remember. Not only THAT..... but you have to get another 75 for a co-driver! But, they ARE the best showers on the road!

you mean we have to take showers when we are on the road? i thought it was a unwritten rule that you dont take showers, gain 200 pounds, forget about your teeth and buy stock in sweatpants lol!

That's for the old school "real truck drivers", we are just "steering wheel holders" and that rule dosn't apply to us!

GMAN 07-14-2009 09:35 AM

Some of the mom and pop truck stops only charge about $5. I know of one who used to not charge anything or require you to purchase fuel. My guess is that their policy has changed by now.

Malaki86 07-14-2009 10:59 AM

The Liberty T/S, just south of Parkersburg, WV required a 1 (one) gallon fuel purchase for a shower as of March.

With every minimum 50-gallon fuel purchase members receive:

•Free shower and fountain drink with a minimum fuel purchase of 50 gallons or more at Flying J locations (fuel purchases between 15-49 gallons receive ˝ shower point and ˝ drink point which will automatically be credited to your account)

Really? I will have to check. But until then I do stand corrected.

Rev.Vassago 07-14-2009 01:11 PM

The thing I really hate is that if you put 50 gallons in, you get one shower. If you put 100 gallons in, you get one shower. If you put 50 gallons in, then shut the pump off, turn it right back on, and put another 50 gallons in, you get 2 showers.

They could just be nice and save us time by giving multiple showers for larger fuel purchases.

The Wild Horse Truckstop in King City, CA on US101 has coin operated shower in the restroom; Not much privacy or security and I don't recommend it.

I do know of one place which I am not going name here where I have got several free showers. They generally require fueling to get a shower, but either the staff is really nice, and they are, or they have been giving the authority it allows this. I prefer stopping there vs the Flying J up the street(with no parking, no way to get a OD load in/out, and a terrible driver lounges). I would fuel with them, but they are not in our fuel network.

I would name the place, but I am not going spoil this deal. Sorry. I do leave a generous tip in the shower.

tombestonebilly 07-14-2009 05:07 PM

Been many a year since I took a shower in a truckstop.
Only time I stop at a truckstop is to fuel and maybe get something to drink and take a piss.
I take all my showers at home now.
I do know that the Ohio Turnpike plazas offer free showers to truckers.
You can bring your own towel or buy one off them for a small fee.

The thing I hate about Flying J is the shower credits are weekly. I usually fuel at the J for a total of 600-700 gallons a week.

A couple weeks ago I fueled at Quick Trip in KC and the casino at exit 140 in New Mexico. I got to Barstow and made my usual stop at the J and went to get a shower and 0 shower credits on my card. I had purchased 650 galloms the week before at J's.

I asked the girl working and she said the credits were weekly. I told her what I thought about that and she finally gave me a shower ticket.

Tell the girl at the counter her hair looks nice and tell her you ran out of credits. Works 9/10 times for me. :)

Or she thinks you smell like Steve Booth.:):):)

With the economy gone to pot, truck stops will probably start charging for parking spaces, like RV parks. :p

does that mean I can only wash my hair in the shower and get 1/2 cup of coffee?

jonp 07-15-2009 02:46 PM

Showers at Mikes in Bow, NH use coins. you need to be really fast there, too. I've used the showers on the OTP. Free and they are pretty nice. Why all turnpikes don't do that is a shame. Trucks pay enough toll I would think.
