days off when driving OTR
 

yo whats up?
yo when u are driving otr and want to take your time off, does it matter where you take your time off? im living in philly and have family in panama city beach, fl. Would i be able to take time off in florida or does it have to be in philly? i would kill to go back and fourth every other month, like after a month driving goto florida and after another month go back to philly. idk just thinking out loud. Let me know what you think!

That depends on the company you're working for. Best to ask the recruiters.

Most companies don't care where you take your hometime as long as they have freight going in that direction and you glve them a little heads up in order to plan the loads accordingly. You just put in a request for when and where. You could go to Fl, then Pa the next time, then Las Vegas the next!
But he is right, just ask the recruiter to make sure.

The one at my current job said "no problem" when I asked if they could get me up to see my kids every 2 or 3 months.

Hasn't happened in over 2 years so far.

Before you talk to a company recruiter, find out what the company' normal freight lanes are. If they routinely go near where you want to take time off, there's probably a good possibility it can be worked out. The person who will make it happen won't be a recruiter, it'll be your dispatcher. They'll need a heads up of what you would like to do.
When I was pulling for the first company I worked for, about a month ahead I told my dispatcher I'd like to be at my brothers for T'giving, I live in NE Florida. The company had regular freight going thru the upper midwest so it was easy for my dispatcher to make it happen. I also routinely was out a month at a time and helped my dispatcher out when she was between a rock and a hard place. There's nothing wrong with working to become a go-to driver for a dispatcher.
