Has anyone moved to California lately?

I've had a Nevada CDL-A for 20 years and was thinking of relocating to some property I own in Cali.

My question-
What is required to transfer my CDL?

I checked the DMV website, the info is a little unclear:

Out-of-State Licenses
Even if you have a current, valid CDL from another state, if you move to California
you will likely have to begin the commercial licensing process from the start to obtain
your California CDL.

Residency is established by any of the following:
Registering to vote here.
Paying resident tuition at a public institution of higher education.
Filing for a California homeowner’s property tax exemption.
Obtaining a license (such as a fishing license).
Any other privilege or benefit not ordinarily extended to nonresidents.

The way I am reading this, there is no out-of-state grandfather clause. I would have to take the knowledge and skills test, even with 20+ years of experience.

OTOH, I could just keep a mailing address in Nevada, and as long as I don't register to vote, file for a property tax exemption, go to college, or go fishing I could just keep my Nevada license. And it would still be legal.

Help anyone?

Thanks...

When I moved to CA about 5-6 years ago all I had to do was take the written tests, including the class c test, do the quickie vision test, fork over the money, and get you pic taken.

Why would you want to move to California now, it is going to hell in a handbasket fast and the taxes are only getting worse.

I would do that. You probably don't want the headache of trying to register your vehicles here either...

You're probably right. I did hear the governator is raising taxes. Yea! Just what California needs... more taxes!

The only reason I'm still here is because I was born and raised here. I moved up North here to one of the least populated counties the State has and the politcos are still riding me every time I turn around. I started a small business a number of years ago and all was ok but now adays I've been slowly sinking in bureaucratic BS and they just keep piling it on. I can't really move the business as it is service based and building a new client base in a new State would be daunting.

So now I am looking to re-enter trucking and eventually find a good middle-America State to move to with good interstate trucking lanes nearby.
