Slingbox for watching recorded sports programs
 

I'm looking for some advice, I posted this here because it seems to be the most active forum. There are a lot of extraneous issues regarding Slingbox so I'll be very specific. I can do fine without most TV if I can follow my favorite sports teams. I don't have to see the games live. Slingbox questions:

>To get around a slow connection, can I record the game through the Slingbox and then watch it when I get to a Panera Bread?

>Does the thing buffer at all to compensate for a slow connection? If it would buffer, I could load it up with my Verizon national broadband and then watch it without interruption a little later.

>And last, I guess, how much $$$?

...even though I have unlimited, I watch it now. I don't want them unilaterally changing my contract, if that's possible. I called Verizon specifically and got confirmation that it's unlimited.

I'm thinking about the speed, nothing worse than trying to watch video that is isn't smooth. Anything that buffers is great. If it doesn't load into a buffer it's hardly worth watching. But, if I could load a game onto the DVR, then watch it later when I'm someplace that has a strong, free wifi, that just might save me $900 for the Vuqube, $300 for a slim TV, and however much for the extra satelite receiver.

More TV would be good, but the thing I miss most are my college sports team. We're stocked with basketball talent three deep and it's a lot of fun watching which way our coach wants to destroy an opponent. Was that an Oregon State avatar I saw before?

Verizon definitely isn't unlimited, and neither is Sprint. Verizon was the first to limit their unlimited service and Sprint sent me a nice notice last week about my usage (5Gb+ per month).

But, yes, Verizon is *NOT* unlimited.

Contracts made after the one I got last December have been limited, but I deliberately called about mine because of the horror story Mike3fan had when he found out the hard way about the limit on his account. Verizon hasn't modified my contract, not yet, anyway.

I have a feeling it's a matter of time before they don't allow any grandfathering in. I'm glad my Verizon account hasn't been limited. Especially since I can easily go through 500 mb of bandwidth per day just from watching a few movies.
